I am 19 years old with five month fraternal twin boys. My grandma on my moms side is a twin as well. Me and my husband were thinking of trying for another baby in a year or two and I was courious as to what my chances of having twins again are. Any thoughts?

I have boy/girl fraternal twins and just recently got pregnant again and did some research... All websites were different, but I found some consistency in one that said I had a 1 in 12 chance of having twins again since my first set were fraternal and my family history of twins (my grandma was also twin)... However, after stressing about it until my first ultrasound at my 8 week appointment, there was only ONE in there... Not sure about the validity of the 1 in 12, but I can tell you that your chances are high because you have a multiple gene- and drop multiple eggs at ovulation. :) Good luck!!!

I have fraternal girls we r 16 months. most things i have read and what my dr told me is this: twins of any kind run only on the mothers side which im sure u know ( the father plays no role in whether or not u have twins). since you had fraternal twins and not identical twins u r more likely to have twins again. my dr. told me i hyper ovulate, meaning i am more likely to drop more then 1 egg at a time. so me personally am done having kids :) i love my girls they r more world but i am getting too old i'm 32 to have another set of twins.

Oh and I had two singletons, then identical twins, then another singleton. I'll let you know what happens next. LOL

From what I've read it doesn't matter what type of twins you have, your chances go up for having them again once you've had them once. Most literature I've read says it doubles for anyone who's had twins but quadruples for those who've had fraternal twins. So if we all have a 3% chance of having twins (which is what recent research suggests) then those who've had identical twins have a 6% chance and those who've had fraternal twins have a 12% chance of having twins again.

I've heard chances are higher but i think it also depends on how long you wait after haveing your first set of twins. I know right after having a baby (twins or not) you are a lot more fertile. Up to I think a year so if you are already fertile mertel by having fraternal twins like me I would definitely wait a couple years. Just to hopefully leasen the chances. lol!

I had identical twins the first time and my doctors said after identical twins your 4 times more likely to have another set but had a single birth 8 yrs later.

I have fraternal girls, who are 9 my specialist stated I was a big risk for twins, triplets or higher as my bodies releases more eggs than normal, I was shit scared but luckily when I feel pregnant with 12 months of the twins I was only carrying one my handsome son, I say to people now if it happens it happens for a reason, and honestly I found my twins a hell of alot easier to care for than my son as tehy had each other to keep company.

Wow! So many statistics and so different.. Wayy back when I was pregnant (haha.. my twin fraternal girls born in 1995), I read that my chances of twins again was 25% higher than before.. I think those statistics change over time as more studies are done, and then also by where/who is doing the studies and deciding on the statistics... I opted to have my "tubes tied" shortly after as I already had a singleton 5 years older than the girls, so I myself didn't want anymore children than that... Also, one of my twins was born with congenital heart disease and had heart surgery at 9 days old and has 6 congenital heart defects and a rare blood disorder, so having twins, one with medical special needs and so many specialists, and both having ADHD on top of it.. I didn't want to chance it LOL! ;) Good luck with your search for statistics.. but honestly, my thoughts are that there is no way to know who.. they say 1 in every 90 pregnancies are twins (at least the last time I checked those stats), so it's almost just a roll of the dice! ;)

The odds of having twins again are exactly the same as they were before so it's no greater after having twins but you are more likely than others to get caught with them again. Eeek I don't think I fancy another set, not if they're anything like my three year old identical monsters.

I was told by my Dr. the percentage went up 80%. And I know several twin moms who went for baby number 3 and got twins again.

My Dr. told me that if you have fraternal twins, you are 40% more likely to have them again.

Because they are fraternal and run in your family, I think you're chances are pretty good. There is a girl I know that had twins at 17 and accidentally got pregnant again 3 months after their birth...with twins again. So I would at least plan for twins...and then if it's only one you will get a break! :P

I've heard everything from 1 in 10,000 chance to 1 in 12 chance after having fraternal twins! My first pregnancy started out as twins, but we lost Twin 2 very early on. I am currently on my second pregnancy...and it's twins again due at the end of February! I think a lot depends on you, how often you hyperovulate, when you do do you only release 2 eggs or more than 2 eggs, how well your husbands sperm swims, too many factors that I'm doubting you know the answers too without loads of medical testing!

Best of luck!

I've heard it does go up when you've already had twins, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I have b/g twins that will be three in June and I also have a son that will be one in July. Though next time around I have a feeling we'll have multiples again. I'll be very surprised if we don't lol.

They are high, not going to lie...
There are girls here who had twins after having twins and also girls who had singletons after the twins....
