What have people said when they saw that you have twins or you were carrying twins?

I am writing my final theasist in college over parents and multiples. I am going over how people don't relies how they offend us when they say annoying stupid comments about us having twins. I really would like to know anything that anyone has ever said when you were pregnant or when you were out and about with your kids and how you reacted. My favorite is when I had both my boys dressed alike and I had around three of four people ask me if they were twins... Really?? No I like to take other people's kids and dress them like mine! My best friends and I went shopping when they boys were about four months and she was carrying one and I had the other and people would ask if they were twins and we would tell people no we had them on the same day and we married twin brothers! We are so mean, I know, but I feel that I have to have fun with it sometimes or I would go insane! Thanks everyone!

I do agree with that. Always saying come here twins, what about their names? Did you forget? No it is just easier for them to call them the twins. People do not realize that their own person just born on the same day

that is funny..Once I was going to the laundromat when my daughters were young, they had on the same outfit and hairstyle. This lady walk by and said "Are they sisters?" I said, noooooo! you can't tell. But now as they get older I have people walk up to me and say I know they are twins and I am a mother of twins or I am a twin.

I have to agree with the same age kid scenario. I have friends who have children relatively close in age, no more than a year apart and they always compare that to have twins. It's nothing like raising TWO of the SAME AGED children. Twice as many diapers, twice as much formula ten times as much noise. The one thing I hate now, which I shouldn't Is that people always look at me like I didn't have my girls 7 months ago. I thought I was a house but compred to people with singletons at my Dr's office...I really wasn't that big. Granted now I would like to differ because while everyone else is shrinking down nicely, I still have the lingering twin handles.

When someone says "man I feel bad for you" or "you have your hands full" I Just say "THANK YOU" smile and walk away. :) BTW I dont always dress them alike, most of the time they are in different clothes. Hubby's fam would bug me about how they are twins and they have to be dressed alike andi got tired of it finally and just told them point blank "They are not side-show attractions. If you had a twin would you want to wear identical clothing all of the time? I think not. I'm tired of people calling them "the twins" they are their own people, with distinct personalities from each other, and I want them to be individuals" case closed.

Quoting Andrea:

I have 3 1/2 year old b/g twins. The no. 1 question is, "oh, are those twins?" "Yes." "Oh, are they a girl and a boy?" "Yes." "Oh, are they identical?" I cannot believe how many times I've been asked this question. I've been asked every other question other people have posted. I think I get the most bothered by people saying that they have kids who are very close in age, and that is like having twins. No, it's not.

AMEAN!  I can not stand when people say that they know what it is like to have twins...  did you carry two kids at the same time.. no ... did you breast feed two kids at the same time..... no.... are they the same age... no so stop saying you know when you don't!!!

Ok so yesterday I was out finishing my Christmas shopping, and yes I had the boys with me, and they were getting hungry so I thought a stop at McDonald's would be a nice treat sense we don't eat out. When I was leaving I had a kid in each arm, a diaper bag over my shoulder, car keys with a happy meal in one hand and a happy meal in the other. I had to bump the door with my BUT and I had around 10-15 guys in there just watching me manhandle this door. HELLOOOOOO you could help and not stare! Sorry I had to rant! lol

I would think my favourite comment I get all the time from people when they see my family out would be : "Are those twins?!" and when they are dressed in pink from head to toe ask "Are they girls?" -- We simply look at them and walk away now.

Oh my Gosh! You brought back some funny memories for me! Hopefully this is te last one I add!
I was @ a tire store when I was about 4 months pregnant with my twins, getting a tire for my garden tractor. When the manager (who I did not know) announced over the speaker Would the woman trying to steal a bowling ball step up to the counter! When I realized he was talking about me (duh!) and approached the counter, he then says laughing...My God, lady! When are you due?! As I replied...In 5 months. It's twins!!! I was not amused! You should have seen the look on his face! Needless to say..He lost a sale & I just realized I haven't been back!! lol

One more!
After my twins were born, I had more than one person ask me if they were identical. As I said No. They would argue back and say...Yes they are! Okay then, they are! I wonder if later they realized what they had said?? People say the darndest things! LOL

This will get you an "A"!
I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my twins. I was as big as a 100 yr. old oak tree! It was June, 90+ degrees. I had out grown all mat. clothes and had now resorted to my husbands tank tops & ugly sport shorts as I was not about to buy new at this point. I had to go grocery shopping to which was a long line. It was difficult for me to stand for any length of time because one of the twins found a resting spot on a nerve or vain that would cut off my oxygen supply and make me weak and light head. Just about would make me faint which would scare me, afraid I would land on my belly. I made it thru the line but still had to pack groceries, when some fool(man) had the nerve to walk over to me and say..."You know...They say pregnant women glow. But you're not glowing!" The Lord saved that man that day!!! No my friends... I did not kill him but the though sure was there!
And No He did not offer to pack. Maybe he thought I would put MY foot in his mouth?!

I have had people total strangers ask me if I had my twin girls naturally???? WTH!!!! Too personal. I also get irritated when people ask if these are my first babies and I reply yes then they proceed to ask you must want more and when I reply that I am done I always get that look...weird! I do also get are they twins or are they girls mind you I dress them in pink and exactly the same all the time. Duh people! LOL!

Oh! I got that natural birth question...I like to be generous and give them some of the more specific details. Baby B came out breach, with some assistance from the doctor. (That's the nice version of that story. lol)

Yes, double trouble has been an annoying one, oh and everyone asking who's older. Up until a few days ago, we told them they were the same age, their twins ya know. It was 2 min, and Bri only came out first because she got pushy!
My most upsetting comment was a friend of mine who was a twin and whose parents constantly compared her to her sister (how horrible!) told me that she wouldn't wish twins on her worst enemy. I had just found out that week it was twins!! I ran off to cry in the bathroom.

I was at the doctor and you know how they ask "How many times have you been pregnant?" I said three. Then he asked me "How many kids?" I said 4. He said, and your probably not going to believe this, " How did that happen?" I couldn't believe it!! I have 16 year old twin boys.

Well, the only things I get offended about are when people say the "double trouble" thing. you have all heard it, I know. NEver yet have they been trouble and I dont need other people telling me what "problems" are gonna be ahead. My babies are wonderful and always will be.

[deleted account]

OOO Double Trouble, and then I reply NO!!!! Double BLESSINGS!!!!!
Or "Are they identical???" (I have a boy and girl twin)
Christiaan is a boy with Down sindrome, and then people will ask "why did only one of the babies have Down sindrom? THEY ARE NOT INDENTICAL!!!!

Some people ...

My favorite comment was, "Did you have twins on purpose?" What!? My reply was, Yes, we had sex twice on the same night. That shut them up lol. I think what they really wanted to know was if I used fertility drugs, which I did not but is none of their business. I also have two older boys for a total of four boys which means I get a lot of "Wow, you really have your hands full." Huh, you think. Just wait until baby #5 is born, I think people will keel over. Fingers crossed it is only a singleton this time. :-)

I have 9 month old twins - a boy and a girl, and I am SHOCKED at people saying 1. are they twins?(why would I have them dressed alike and why are they the same size, and in a double stroller, and look alike), 2. Are they Identical(NO - they are a boy and a girl!!!)

I'm so sick of hearing 3 things: 1. "Boy you've got your hands full!" Let's see, 2 hands, 2 babies, yeah, I guess I do! But I usually say that they're angels and they make it easy for me and then no one knows what to say back to that!
2. "Do twins run in your family?" Do you seriously want to get into that? No they don't. I struggled for 6 years to have kids, and it was the hardest thing I've ever been through, but thanks for bringing it up! and
3. "Really, twins? They can't be!" Ummmm, Yup, pretty sure they're twins since I carried them for 8 months! Just because one has a full head of dark hair and the other has red peach fuzz on top doesn't mean they can't be twins. Apparentely you aren't the brightest crayon in the box no are you?!
Of course I wouldn't say such rude things to people but I know to think before I speak. People are amazed with twins for some reason and they just have to say something. It makes me laugh to have fun with it because you would go insane for sure! I like to make up different things all the time to peoples' "interesting" comments.
Oh the thing that bothered me the most when I was pregnant was- "you don't look like you're having twins!" Gee thanks, I guess.
I'm just glad I only have 2 because I think 3 or more would give some people a heart attack! Good luck on your paper!

[deleted account]

It really bugs me that people compare twins to each other & expect them to be exactly alike, my boys could not be more different yet they are treated by others as if they are one person.

I usually heard "Bless your heart" I was so tired of hearing that I could have screamed. Then there was the "It's going to be hard raising twins especially when they cry at the same time and blah blah blab. To be honest I did not have the nightmare everyone thought it was going to be with twins.
