What types of activities do you do with a 4-6 month old?

Hi everyone, I am curious and would love some ideas of what to do with my 4 month old twin boys. I am trying to keep them on a schedule but some times one will sleep longer than the other and I will only have one awake at a time.

We do our tummy time (which is getting better but still frustrates them) We swing, we play with toys (which really means I am playing with the toy while they watch) and we sing, read books etc.....

I feel like maybe I am not doing enough? We love to go for walks but I live in South Florida and have to wait till it gets cooler in the afternoons for that.

Any ideas?

my girls are 6mo old. we do pretty much the same types of things. remember, they are little, so even just tracking toys that you are holding is a lot of work for them. tummy time takes a LOT out of them. we have a PT come once a week (the girls were premature so we are in early intervention) and these are the same things she tells us to do. tummy time, playing with toys, rolling over (with help), sitting (with support). we also do our tummy time on top of an exercise ball for variety. it is great because it puts them up higher where they can see better and with the bounce to the ball, it's more comfortable for them to push up on. our girls love it! even if you can't walk outside do to the heat... take them to do errands. gets you all out of the house, gives them other things to see, and it's exercise too! (especially lugging that double stroller!!) also, enjoy that one at a time awake time!! good luck!!

My boys turned 5 months last week. They are just getting to where they can hold a rattle on their own. They like the cheap lighter rattles and simple plastic circles. They hit thier head alot,but they seem to like it. We play peek-a-boo and they are learing to LOVE that. We play patty cake with feet and hands to help discover them and exercise them. That makes us giggle alot!! Walks are great (Texas here, so late or earliy) they need the sun and love to look at stuff. 4 months is just beginning, so it sounds like you are on top of it ... mostly you play and they watch...lol!!

I know what you mean about the heat.I'm in south Texas :)

For tummy time with my twins i had an old futon that I'd put down and all of us would get down on our tummies with some toys between us.I'd wiggle or play with a toy and depending on age, would put it just out of reach so they'd have to wor a bit for it. If not at the starting to crawl stage yet then just playing with them and being cheerful at their own eye level seems to help.

I remember placing them side by side and doing songs like head, shoulders, knees and toes or wheels on the bus (still a favorite song). If they can grab then they can hold small toys. It may not seem like they're doing more than staring, but they're playing and exploring in their own way..Books are always good.Really it sounds ike you're doing pretty well. Have you tried letting them use a child safe mirror yet? that's always lots of fun.
