What was going on in your mind when you gurr those words come out of your Dr's mouth? Twins!?

I have a tilted uterus, and when I went in for a check up,they couldent hear a heart beat so they made an appt for an ultrasound.... so I'm laying there worried if it was another molar pregnancy or something, and the lady looks at me and my boyfriend and asked us if twins run in the family, were both like no,why? Like what a silly question....so she turns to us and says there's 2 in there, congratulations and gives us the pic of 2 little blobs.....lol my guy was super excited and happy, and I was like holy Crap.... my body gonna be crazy and I gained 55 lbs with just my daughter...I was freeking out.....lol seemed so long ago now...

I love hearing these stories! We had a hard time getting preggo the first time with my daughter, found out I had PCOS and got on the right drugs and finally conceived. We had decided that she was enough for us and since we'd had such trouble decided condoms were enough for us. Well 2 years later I missed a period and was in shock when I was surprise pregnant! Both of our families instantly started joking about twins. To the point my brother would only refer to the baby as them or they, I finally got angry with him and said when I get the ultrasound will you please stop this? He said, I would but it's twins. LOL! I went in for my first ultrasound at 12 weeks, I also had been having so much pain as my uterus stretched and I was already starting to show pretty well. The U/S tech started and I saw a flash of the 2nd baby and I went numb. He said hold on I want to go in vaginally, I'm seeing a lot of shadows... he walked out and I turned wide eyed to my dad and said I saw 2! The u/s tech came back in and said do twins run in your family? I said very quietly.. um.. yes... he said, have you been on any fertility meds? ummm no.... Well your having twins!

The only thing I could say was.. I'm never going to live this one down! The weirdest part was that all of the twins in my family are fraternal and somehow I BAM got identicals!!! I call them my little miracles :)

When I got home I printed off the u/s photo really large and had the camera ready and waited for my DH to get home. He walked in took one look at me and said it's twins isn't it? Before I even got to show him the pic!

I was 22 weeks along and had already had one ultra sound done. So I "knew" I was only having one, hahaha! When he said "twins!" I just kept saying, "shut up....shut up" I thought he was playing a joke on us. And my (then) husband just kept repeating my name. We were both shocked, then nervous and scared, then excited. It was a cool experience.

Honestly, not sure why, but we just never gave twins a thought so when we heard "well there's one, and there's the other one" it was a complete shock. Definitely a "you could hear a pin drop" moment.

It was at the 12 week scan when i found out i was having twins i was like OMG! but my husband didn't / couldn't talk for about half an hour . it was really strange because i had a dream 2 weeks before the scan that i had twins and it was very vivid then a week after that i was at a friends party when she said i think ur going to have twins then you can join our club (2 of my friends have twins 1 b/b other b/g)
i tell you someone knew something the first person i told was my friend i went straight to her house so i could see her expression it was a picture one i'll remember forever
my little boys are wonderful and have fitted in with our family (2 other children) like the last piece of the puzzle

I always thought I would have twins. Both sets of my Grandparents had twins and my greatgrandfather was a twin. Our 1st daughter was a singleton. I knew right away that something was different about this pregnancy. At 1 1/2 months, I was already in maternity clothes and was starving all the time. At my 12 week ultrasound, the technician put the ultrasound on my belly and my husband and I saw 2 heads! I screamed "There's 2 heads!" and the technician said "oh, you didn't know there were 2?" We were shocked but happy. For weeks, my husband and I would look at each other and he would say "dos" and we would giggle. They were born 4/13 and we couldn't be happier!!!

I was 30 weeks when i found out. I was measuring perfect for one baby thewhole time and it wasnt until he did blood work later on he noticed my hormones were outragious!! I went to the ultrasound with my sister and our sons, as soon as she turned on that screen I saw 2 heads and was hoping i saw it wrong..The tech thought we already knew, so she says ok, what do we have, awww two baby girls!! I jumped up, started laughing, the crying, my sister about hit the floor, she called my husband, he thought she was messing with him, kept hangin up on her. It was a mess!! I carried those girls for 38 weeks and then begged the doc to take them out!! Autumn and Madelyn 4pds each cmae out 6/23/2010, one was blonde headed, one was black haired. One looked like her dad, one looked like me. I had them normally, no c-section, best delivery, easiest delivery, and my girls were perfect, no nicu, they came home with me 2 days later. I am soo thankful for them, and their 3 other siblings, that I couldnt imagine not having them. Theirs something to be said for multiples, they win over anyone!! I myself am a twin.

When I was pregnant with my twins some 25 years ago....MY husband and I were in the room during the ultrasound when we saw 2 round things on the screen. I asked the Tech, "What was that?"and he answered, "Congratulations, you having twins", she printed out this picture and handed it to us as she quickly left the room. I was like 19 and hubby was like 21. We both looked at the picture with utter surprise. Then he started crying and saying, "How am I going to support two babies...OMG!" I said repetitively, "Oh S#*T!!" . After that I called my parents and asked them if I was adopted because twins don't run in the family..my father laughed hysterically and promptly said "No". We were terrified. Yeah it does seem funny looking back at it now. They kept me busy and still do at 24y/o. They as well as their sisters are greatly loved and I have been blessed.

So, I knew there was a possibility that I could have twins...My first son is a singleton birth and was conceived via IUI....I don't get periods, so there was no way of having babies on my own...We tried naturally for over a year before seeking fertility help. When we were ready to grow our family the second time around, we went straight with IVF. During the first cycle, my husband and I were in a head on collision leaving me with a shattered foot that required surgery, so I needed to retrieve my eggs and freeze them. Once I was healed and ready to proceed, we implanted 2 embryos with the hopes that 1 would take. They told us there was less than a 10% chance of them both taking, so we just prayed one would take...When I went for my first vaginal ultrasound after I found out I was pregnant, the doctor said oh I see we are working on 2 here! My husband's face was white as a ghost, and I don't think we talked the whole ride home! After it all settled in, he was excited. I was thrilled the whole time :)

I was on depo provera for almost 4 years and every one told me that i wont have any kids because of the long time i used it. I went of and direct on the 'pil' for 2 months and in that 2 months i got pregnant. did bloodtest and everything and it was positive but when i went for my first scan there was nothing. Like an totally nothing. I was then 4 weeks. The doctor thought it may be a 'buis swangerskap' and we wait untill i was 8weeks before we did a scan again and there it was only the ' vrugsakkie' and on 12 weeks there were twins. but at the 8 weeks my husbands uncle made a joke and told us it was twins. We both laught at him like in no its only one hey. And there it was twins. The doctor also made a joke like 'lets see if there are one more' Hahaha my husband only sit there and watched the screen and there i was laughting my ass off. Today they are 1 yr and 5 months old and is everything in this world to us.

I was told when I was younger that it would be difficult for me to get pregnant due to an irregular period. I never really worried about using birth control with my significant other because I had come to terms that I would never get pregnant. At 33 years old I found out I was pregnant. Which was a total shock in itself, because I wasn't even trying. After a week or two of finding out, I began spotting. Fearing miscarriage I called the doctor which immediately sent me for bloodwork then a follow up ultrasound. It was my first pregnancy so I had no idea what I was looking at on the screen. The ultrasound tech left the room and said "i'll be right back". I thought something was wrong. The doctor came in and looked at the ultrasound and said "yup it's twins". I almost pooped my pants! It definitely has been an exciting journey!!! :)

Thanks for sharing Sara! I was having those same kinda pains, back when I had just found out we were pregnant,I had nothing like that with my daughter, and hadn't seen a Dr yet so I was going on web me scaring my self and thought the same thing, ectopic pregnancy but the pain faded with time and once we found out it was twins they said the pain was from the uterus growing so much so fast, lol

My husband and I had been trying for 3 1/2 years. One miscarriage and 7 months of fertility treatments. I was at the doctor for a pre-op appointment. They were going to do surgery to poke around in there and find out what the pain on my left side was and see why I wasn't getting pregnant. They do a pregnancy test at your pre-op. I was pregnant. I immediately went over for an ultra sound because they were worried about an ectopic pregnancy since I was having pain. I was 5wks and 3 days pregnant with twins. I was ecstatic. I called my husband to tell him. His response was "Twins? Two of them? Don't you think that's a bit much for the first pregnancy?" I explained how it was a little late to change that! :) We were in the end thrilled, once is soaked in for him anyway. Our twin girls are now 7 years old and a HUGE blessing for us. We also had a surprise later (the drs said no way I could get pregnant again). And now we know how blessed and lucky we were to get the 3 we have since it's physically impossible to have more.

We had been married for about 6 months and had been trying to conceive (naturally) for a couple months when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. I had taken a home test before he went in for testing but it was negative. A week after his diagnosis, I was at work counting the days on the calender and was like "Ohhhh...." and went to get another test at the CVS and took it at the gas station where it immediately turned positive. I told the girls at work because I had to tell SOMEONE. I met my hubby at his moms house after work and pulled him aside and told him. We were still reeling from his illness (doc told him 4 to 6 monthd to live), so he was excited but kinda reserved about it. His parents were thrilled. All the family kept joking with us that I was going to have twins and we'd say "Nooooo, dont jinx us".

I had to drag him kicking and screaming to my first appointment at 8 weeks. He had been in the hospital for a little while and wanted to get caught up at work. He works for himself, so I didnt feel bad for pulling him away from it at all. I told him it was the first appointment and that if something was wrong, he needed to be there.

So my doc does a transvaginal ultrasound. She no longer does OB but took me as a favor since I'd been seeing her for years. She pokes around in there for a few minutes before turning the screen and waving hubby over so we can see. "Well...theres baby number one..." we dont even let her finish before we all start freaking out. I think at one point we ALL, doc included, said "Ohhhh sh*t!". She even called her nurse in to have a look. After about 10 minutes we calmed down enough to continue, although I kept bursting into giggles during the ultrasound.

He called his dad first and told him, then called his mom who totally didnt believe him because we had been joking about it this whole time. I called MY mom and started out with playfully cursed at her for "jinxing" me. Then I called my hubby and I's mutual friend cause I was telling him two days prior that I had gained 10 lbs already and just knew there had to be more than one. I wasnt entirely serious, or so I thought! He laughed at me :)

My hubby called every single person in the contact list on his phone. I think he was much more excited about twins than if it had been just one baby. I heard him tell one buddy that just had a baby "Anybody can have ONE baby, I'm having TWO". It was adorable.

We had gotten a second opinion on his cancer and had found out two weeks prior to his major surgery about the twins. It was a very risky procedure, but it was our only chance. The morning of the surgery, the resident helping the other two docs working on my hubby asked me how the baby was. I looked at him and said "Babies...there are two" and he was like "Ohhhhhhh, dont do that to me" I told him "Yea, twins, no pressure". The surgery was long, and nearly impossible the surgeon said, but they didnt give up until they removed the entire tumor. Longest 9 hours of my life in the waiting room. The surgeon came out and talked to us about the surgery and how it went, it really shook him up how close it was. He gave his mom and I a hug and totally teared up. During the hospital stay (I slept in the windowsill for 3 nights because they didnt have a cot in the ICU, I cant wait for payback) we decided to add the surgeons names to the names we picked out for the boys. 3 months later, the u/s showing two girls kinda spoiled that plan (the surgeon was relieved, he said that was too much pressure).

32w2d today. It's been a long journey and the closer I am the more impatient I get to meet my baby girls and to see their daddy hold them. (He is currently completely and utterly cancer free).

Whew...sorry about the long story
