With my daughter (2) i tell her 3 times if she is doing something wrong, on the third time i count to five first warning her if she doesn't stop she sits on the naughty chair/step, if she carries on she sits on the step for 2 minutes (a minute per year of her age), then i come down to her level tell her what she has done and that mummy doesn't like naughty behavior, when i turn her i get her to apologies and we have a kiss and a cuddle, and then its over and we carry on as normal and don't mention the incident again...,.
It works very well for me i hope it may work for you. Also i tried putting her in her room but she just found it fun playing with her toys and didn't know it was a punishment. xxx

my son (21months) has just started to ignore me and pretend he dont understand me when i telling him off. i tell him a few times (normally 3) to stop or whatever. and if he doesnt listen i sit him down and tell him again. it worked perfectly to start with but he now started to try his luck. tryed the naughty step thing but he doesnt understand he has to sit still. if he bein really naughty and doesnt react to me, i tap his hand (tho i dont like to) but it gets more of a reaction. and i have also took him into his room and left him (he's safe there) for 5 minutes.
