Anyone Else Love the Paranormal Romance Genre?

[deleted account] ( 34 moms have responded )

I admit that Twilight resparked the vampire genre for me years ago because at the time I was teaching 8th grade Reading, so I naturally read what my students were reading. I picked up many young adult vamp series to read with my students. But now I have switched to the adult versions :-)

I have read the following series, but always looking for more suggestions:

Sookie Stackhouse-Charlaine Harris

Black Dagger Brotherhood- JR Ward

Dark Hunters-Sherilyn Kenyon

Demonica-Larissa Ione

Lords of the Underworld-Gena Showlater

I also have Anne Rice books that I need to reread!

I've read a book or 2 from Kresley Cole's Immortal After Dark series and a book from Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I need to revisit those series, eventually.

You all have got to try the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs - the first one is Moon Called. I love this series!

Also, have you tried the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead? To me it blows Twilight out of the water!

I LOVE this genre! I'm reading Rubenesque Rapture by Rose Wynters right now. It's part of a series called The Endurers. I love Kresley Cole, Charlaine Harris, and Keri Arthur.

I love this genre and at the moment I am reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and I love them..Granted Twilight is my all time favorite but I like a little kinky in my books every now and then..I did read the Fifty Shades of Grey series and it is extremely kinky...I thought it was alright but if you read or write twilight fanfiction like I do then it was too closely related to a kinky version of Edward and Bella...Which don't get me wrong was good just not as good as I thought it would be..

I think I have found the group of my dreams now! If anyone would like suggestions on other series and authors that fall under this category, please feel free to ask. LOTU is by far my favorite. BDB is a very close second. But there are a lot of authors and books out there that are not classified as paranormal or paranormal romance that you may not be aware of. A very good friend of mine is recently a self-published author and she has an amazing talent. We originally met on facebook in a roleplaying group and our friendship has blossomed. She currently has 3 books out now and a 4th on the way, unfortunately they're in ebook format only. And another friend has 2 books out.

I just finished Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1) by C.L. Wilson and it was FABULOUS! I loved it! It is more Fantasy/Romance than PNR - but awesome all the same! ;-)

Check out the Carpathian Series by Christine Feehan. Laurell K. Hamilton has written two series that I also highly recommend: Anita Blake and Merry Gentry. I also love JR Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Charlaine Harris. I'll have to give those others a try.

I read lots of this genre and find it vastly entertaining. However, I am wondering how you can skip the smut in the Anita Blake series and still have much of a book to read after say the 6th book it's lots of smut.

I would also recommed reading Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series. Immortal After Dark series is awesome, sadly I haven't been able to find any of the BDB, which makes me a bit sad, but my search will not end.

Oh my goodness I love this genre. The best book so far that I have read has been, Big Bad Wolf. I'm on the Conversion series right now. They are such good books so far, seeing as I am only on the second book. Any suggestions would be helpful. Looking for the next series to read after this one

I"m actually addicted to the Anita Blake series. As an English major I have certain issues with her writing due to the repetition of certain phrases and other such 'nit picky' critiques, but her storylines and her characters are WONDERFUL. I really like the progression of the characters and I highly recommend her for those aspects.

I've never been 'into' the whole 'smut' aspect of novels, and when I re-read her works I usually skip over those sections because that isn't what I am after. One of my favorites in that series is "Obsidian Butterfly".

I think I've finally read all of Laurell K. Hamilton's books (both series), and have to say they are by far the best I've ever read. I hope to eventually get two of every book (one for display, one for reading).

I'm going to write down your suggestions, and add these:

The Hollows series by Kim Harrison and Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Have you read the Mocking Bird series?

Laura, I bought the Mercy Thompson series a while ago cause you had said u were reading it and it was good! I forgot all about it though- need to dig that out of the closet!!

[deleted account]

Thanks for the books ideas Laura! I'm looking for more adult content though. I am very familiar with the Vamp Academy and read several young adult series. I teach 9th grade English so I do like to connect with what my students are reading. But for my own personal reading, well I like the smut factor that the book series I listed above offer ;-)

[deleted account]

Shannan, I can't tell you HOW many people say the same thing-in various forums & message boards! No other series can top BDB. Let me know if you find a series!

I absolutely love this genre too, however I can't find anything to top Black Dagger Brotherhood or even come close to it!! I am in the process of Lords of the Underworld and Kresley Cole; loved Sookie and am currently reading the second witches book by Anne Rice. But like I said can't find anything better than the brotherhood.
