Good book series equivalent to "Twilight" or "Harry Potter"????

I just read Twlight series and loved it. I couldn't put it down. I felt the same way about the Harry Potter series when I read that. I like authors like Jody Picoult, John Grisham, and Nicholas Sparks but I don't feel like their books grab my attention as well. I have two little kids so I am starting to be picking about the books that I read so that I can really enjoy that down time. Does anyone recommend any other series that you feel is as good as Twilight or Harry Potter. I haven't read Lord of the Rings...... it's seems a little too out there for me, but maybe not. Suggestions on a good book series???

Cassandra Clare has a trilogy called Mortal Instruments....City of Bones, City of Ash, City of Glass.....great books!!! Im reading the Marked series and love them so far. Cinda Williams Chima has a trilogy that I love Warrier, Wizard, and Dragon Heir. Ive been reading alot of the juvenile books lately. Inkheart is cute. I want to read the Vampire Academy books. Hope that helps.

Night World by L.J. Smith. At this point there are 3 books in the series and each book has 3 "books" in it.

After reading Twilight we were kind of caught up in the super natural type stories and these are clean enough that my 16 yr old daughter can enjoy them as well.

I am completely the same way. I was on my facebook page and found an application called visual library, or something like that, and found a series called City of Bones. I read the first 28 pages in no time! Through facebook I am able to read this book for free, and I belive there are at least two others in the series. Stephanie Meyer, herself said that she loved this series!! I was sold! Hope this helps- If youv'e heard of any good book series' I'd like to know too!

Oh my! This is my first post I don't think the HP books will interest me, but the Twilight series I have yet to read and am excited. I like the FBI series by Catherine Coulter and In Death series by JD Robb. I can't wait to read some of the other suggestions. Oh and I have read the first two books Woman's Murder Club by James Patterson.

I also suggest Vampire Academy. It's a great book series. I couldn't put it down and cannot wait for the 4th. I read the House of Night series and didn't enjoy it as much. It was okay, but the teenage talk in it was a bit much for me at times and I would roll my eyes. I still read all 5 in the series and over all I would say they are okay. It was quick reading for me and over all enjoyable.

Patricia Briggs has a series that has werewolves, shapeshifters, vampires etc.. It is set in Eastern Washington. The main character is Mercedes Thompson..she is a shapeshifter-coyote/mechanic with a sense of humor. I really enjoyed the books. She also has a series that shares some of the characters that is mostly werewolves. The first book is called Moon Called....

Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry do a series from Disney that I have heard is good but haven't read yet. I think my son will enjoy them once he gets a little older.

I agree with Stephanie, the Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare is really good book series. It has the Twilight/HP vibe as it is has vampires, werewolves, fairies, wizards. Also, I am reading the Vampire Academy series...#4 comes out in August! I was introduced to VA by my 15 year old cousin, and was very skeptical. After reading the first one, I read the others within two weeks or so. They are great! If you love Jodi Picoult, I recommend reading Sarah Dessen. She writes like Jodi, but her topics are not as intense, which makes it easier to read her books. I love JP too, but sometimes I have to stop and question what I would do in the situations. Her books are very deep. I love The Pact. It was heartbreakingly wonderful!

I read both the "twilight" and "Harry Potter" series' too and I had a really hard time putting them down too. If you liked those you should read the "House of Night" series by P. C. and Kristin Cast. I have already read the first two and they were both excellent.
I loved them. They are about a girl who is chosen to be a vampire and ends up at the "House of Night" vampire finishing school.

Have you read the other book by stephenie meyers, The Host. It is really good. Also love Sookie Stackhouse books. Love Charlaine Harris. Most of her books are really good.

hmmm..what Twilight and HP have in common I suppose is romance (unhealthy as it may be!). I don't think HDM has that element. Just a thought. Although I read all the HDM the story didn't really stick with me. But this reminds me of another series I read about the same time: Charlie Bone. And my daughter says everyone must read The Pridian circle (book of three, black cauldron etc.) and the Ink books are good: Inkheart, Inkspell....

Can't believe I haven't seen His Dark Materials series on this list. I did NOT like twilight, but have read HP at least 4 times...and HDM is very similar...

Yikes this is a tough one because I didn't like the Twilight books at all (and neither did my big kids). But I did enjoy the HP series. And since you like HP you might enjoy others in the teen genre. I like reading what my children read. I really enjoyed the Artemis Fowl books. Terry Pratchett's Going Postal. My son suggests Pratchett's Thud. And I'm trying to get everyone to read Connie Willis's Bellwether. Not a series but such a fun little read.

Quoting Crystal:

Going along on the Harry Potter vibe, pick up "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini. Yes, it is a huge book with a dragon on the cover. But oh my! You will not want to put it down! (P.S. Do NOT see the movie, under ANY circumstances.) There are two books to follow that you will also not want to put down - Eldest and Brisingr.

Yes - good suggestion , my daughter is reading "Eragon" - she loves it .....And of coourse the movies are never like the books , i don't usually bother if i read the books. Sometimes out of curiosity only , just so i can say "The Book is better"....LOL

Crystal -have you read Erec Rex" by Kaza Kingsley? My daughter read those and i read some - i love it . Her 3rd book is coming out real soon too... You will probably like them , the first one is called "Dragons Eye" and the second one "The Monters of Otherness"

Hope you enjoy - Laura

Outlander is my new addiction. I think the start to Outlander was a little slow, but you really need it to set up the story. Once you get a few chapters in, you wont want to put it down.

hmmm, I am trying to think of some other books that really grabbed me... Water for Elephants was great. I wasnt sure I was going to like it at first, but wow, it was a good story.

Oh, yes I agree Sookie Stackhouse is a good book series, I read them all so far! Same with Vampire Acedemy by Richelle Mead....oh what shall become of my beloved Dimitri? Sigh... I reallly reallly like P.C. and Kristen Cast's House of Night series now, but I found it very annoying in the beginning. All these are YA stuff, but House of Night really is very high school. But the characters seem to grow with each book so I love them now.

And yes, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare was VERY good..many twists and turns in the plot to keep you interested! I am reading the first book in the spinoff series to this now, The Clockwork Angel.

Also, there is the Hourglass Door series by Lisa Mangum, the first book is slow but worth it and the third book is coming out next year.

Then let's see..what else? Sweep Series by Cate Tiernan. 16 books in that one to keep you busy for a while! I loved that it totally transcends time and generations. Really good book series!

And also Wicked series by Nancy Holder and Debbie Vigue. Those books kept me glued for a good little while too.

I also recommend anything in general by P.C. Cast. She's one of my favorite authors and can whip up quite a tale!

Right after I read the Twilight series I read the Highlander series from Karen Marie Moning and fell in love with her writing. The first is Into the Highland Mist and it is awesome. These are def. books that will make you feel like you had Mommy time. Because they are for grown ups. Once you start reading her books you can't stop, its a very good book series. Enjoy!!
