The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Henrietta Lacks was a 31-year-old black mother of five in Baltimore when she died of cervical cancer in 1951. Without her knowledge, doctors treating her at Johns Hopkins took tissue samples from her cervix for research. They spawned the first viable, indeed miraculously productive, cell line—known as HeLa. These cells have aided in medical discoveries from the polio vaccine to AIDS treatments. What Skloot so poignantly portrays is the devastating impact Henrietta's death and the eventual importance of her cells had on her husband and children.

I just picked this book up from the library but I'm reading A small hotel first. I am hoping to get both of them read as they both sound really good.

Thanks for three welcome. It had been so long since read the series (probably when A Breath of Snow and Ash came out) that I needed to refresh my memory. And, it would be nice to get caught up before there next one! I usually don't reread books. The only other reread I've done is the Twight series.

Welcome Nicole! I so wish I could re-read books because Outlander and Into the Wilderness would both be at the top of my list. But alas, I just cannot reread....

Hi Laura and Michele, I'm new here exploring CoM but I just have to comment because I'm on my 2nd reread of Outlander so I can finally read An Echo in the Bone. I just finished The Fiery Cross last night.

There is an incredibly long wait for this book at my library, so I am going to read Nineteen eighty-four : a novel / by George Orwell. Anyone want to join me?

Never heard of this book...I'll have to see if I can find it at my little local library. It's a public library, but the selection is pretty sparse.

Sounds very interesting though.
