I loved the movie! The book was great and I thought the movie did a great job is following the book though I wish a little more detail had been given in the movie about how desperately poor and hungry the families in the districts were and how dangerous it was for Katniss to go outside the district to hunt. It was shown but glossed over a bit.

Hunger Games was really good. I have the book on my to-be-read shelf. I'm almost through with The Poisonwood Bible. Wow. It gets really tense 2/3 of the way through. I find myself wanting to find out what happens next, then be done with it. It's a compelling story about a very controversial subject.

I enjoyed the movie and I'm looking forward to reading the book. If I read the book first I am always disappointed in the film. This way I can enjoy the movie if it's good, and enjoy the book. It's a great story. Katniss defines "feisty" in my humble opinion. Rue, too, and very cute too boot.

I loved the books but I didn't like the movie. Maybe it is because I listened to the unabridged versions of all three of the books and the movie changed over half of what happened and how it happened. The only thing I liked about the movie was the scenes showing the game makers manipulating the arena. I don't know if I will watch the other movies when they are made.

I loved the books and the movie was better than I had expected. My only thing is that Liam Helmsworth fit how I pictured Peeta and Josh Hutchinson fit my picture of Gale, but all in all, it was a good movie...

Laura - I agree with everything that you said about the characters, except that I had someone more athletic pictured for Katniss. But in the end, I fell in love with every character on the screen, just like I did in the book. I thoug.ht that the movie was great...can't wait for the next one

Bonnie,
I read all of the books, long before I knew there was a movie in the making. I still enjoyed the movie having read the book first. I can't think of the last time that happened!

Hi, I'm new to Circle of Moms, but saw this post and wanted to jump in. I saw it with my sixth grade twins. We all enjoyed it and had lots to talk about afterwards, which is always the best part.

Hi! I'm new to the group so I figured I would start here since I saw the movie and read the books as well. :D

I loved the movie! I was so happy when they kept it as close to the book as possible. The girl who played Katniss was exactly like I thought she would be and I loved the guy who played Peeta. I can't wait until the next one comes out!

I haven't seen it yet! I want to though....just have to find the time. Most of the time when I go to the movies these days it's something I see with my 6 yr; old daughter, who is not quite ready for The Hunger Games. :)

The use of technology almost made it seem like the competitors were in a video game and not in a survival scenario. They did it really well, even though it's a creepy concept.

Good points Amanda! What did you think of the way they showed how the Capital manipulated the 'game'? I thought that was pretty cool!

Sorry, Laura Beth. I haven't been on much! :)

I saw the movie on Saturday, and my expectations were low, but I really enjoyed it. I liked how they were able to take such a graphic book and not make it as graphic on screen. I enjoyed how many of the deaths you knew happened, but you didn't have to see.

Like you, I didn't 'see' the boy they choose for Peeta as Peeta, but I got used to him quickly, and he did a really nice job. His love for Katniss was unmistakable! :)

The woman that played Katniss was a nice surprise. She did a really nice job.

I was not fond of the characters that played her family members though, nor the boy that played Gale.

Lenny Kravitz as Cinna was AWESOME!

The girl that played Rue, while not what I had initially thought, was good too.

I was not fond of Woody as Haymitch. I think John Goodman would have been a better choice.

Come on guys - I know you must've gone to see the movie!

Here are a couple of my thoughts on the characters:

Josh Hutcherson is not how I pictured Peeta but is spirit and the look in his eyes and his temperament were perfect!

Liam Hemsworth as Gale was perfect! Looks and all!

Lenny Kravitz as Cinna was perfect as well! My first thought was "what?!?", but he was awesome!

Woody Harrelson took Haymitch's character to the top!

Amandla Stenberg as Rue was fabulous! She was so cute!

And of course, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss - exactly as I pictured her and she kicked butt!

Can you tell I loved the movie?
