We want to stop giving the babies shots because my oldest son is being tested for autism. I need to know my rights but I unerstand that it is different in each state. We are a military family and move a lot. We recently moved to Ohio and the doctor mentioned that if you go too long without getting shots the state can take your children away. I dont see how that is possible. Does anybody know what steps to take to get a waiver of sorts so that there arent any problems?

The exemption is for school and it depends on your state what you have to do to get it. But as a newborn, you don't have to get any shots. NONE! They are only required for entry into daycare or school. So you can get an exemption to help you feel better right now, but it's not needed for an infant. Send me an email and I can help you figure out you states laws. You can go to NVIC's website, nvic.org and near the top center, click on vaccine laws. Then click on state vaccine requirements. From there, it will show you a state map. Just click on your state and it will bring up legal information about your states exemptions. Good luck. And remember, alot of doctors might give you crap about this. Don't let them scare you into doing something on the spot that makes you feel uncomfortable. They CANNOT take your kid away from you for not vaccinating. All they can do is say they won't be your doctor. Some docs are good about it, and others are seriously NOT. But don't let them scare you into something!
Good luck!

What is this exemption I keep seeing mentioned on here? Someone please fill me in here me and my husband are going to get our daughter only certain vaccines that WE feel like are neccessary and important but want to avoid certain ones we feel like wouldn't be in her best interest to recieve. She is going to her first doctors visit tomarrow [she is a week and 5 days old] and we are worried about having trouble getting her enrolled in school later on down the road so if there really is some kind of documentation we could obtain to prevent that problem later on I would appreciate it very very much if someone could give me some info on that? thanks :)

The state can not take your children away, vaccines are not mandatory. You need to find a new doctor. All you need is an exemption so that your children can be enrolled in school.

I just saw this and I am so glad that you have been directed to the right places. Like NVIC. My husband just left the military and we have had exemptions in multiple places. Sometimes, a base will tell you they follow the state laws, other times the base will say, they follow federal laws and they can do what they want. But you still have that choice. And it IS DOABLE! You do NOT have to get the shots! They can NOT take your kids from you for this! The best defense is knowledge. Know the laws and then take the law into the doctors office and put it on his desk and tell him if he ever threatens to take your kids away from you again, you will sue him. And then fire him as a doctor and get a better one. That's my opinion.

Your Dr. is your employee. If he disagrees with you, bullies you, or mistreats you b/c of your informed decision to decline vaccines, then fire him.
Dr.s are in a position of service NOT authority.

Consider a N.D. or a family Dr.

Good luck!

have you found a doctor in ohio yet that will see your kids without being vaccinated? Our doctor said if we don't vaccinate, we have to go somewhere else and we are looking for a new doctor. Live in N.E. Ohio.
