how wrong is it that i am 38 yrs old, and a therapist, but i still feel the most appropriate and effective response when dealing with an elementary school bully is to lay a quick punch to his face and/or neck area?

I agree with you most bullies only bully until they realize the child they are picking on is not going to take it and can stand up for themselves. I did have to tell my son to be the crap out of his bully when he was 6 the school wouldn't do anything about it kept telling him to walk away or use his words and it would stop, not so. So we told the school if they wouldn't do anything about it then we would let him handle it and they better not stand in his way. The kid bullying him was two years older and about a foot taller but my son knocked him on his butt and gave him a fat lip needless to say he was no longer bullied that year and the school did suspend my child but we felt it was worth the consequence as it taught my son to stick up for himself if no one will help.
