Market Yourself the RIGHT Way
For those of us who have home based businesses, we all know that in order to grow our businesses and be successful we have to market. Marketing is an art that has to be learned. Hopefully you have someone, like a mentor, who can teach you how to market effectively. For those that don’t have that kind of support, you may be left to figure out how to market by trial and error. Marketing can be a huge learning curve for people who have no experience in advertising or marketing.
In our society we are advertised to constantly, radio, television, newspapers, billboards. Social media (Facebook, Twitter) has quickly become just another way for people to advertise. I feel that it’s important for those in the network marketing industry to bring value to the industry by maintaining a professional approach. I was very guilty in the beginning of trying to market in ways that brought negative reactions from people. Unfortunately, it is why the industry itself has such a “bad rap” because most people are just not taught the proper way to market. People want to know that you sincerely care about helping them. Take the Circle of Mom Community for example. If a mom posts that she is looking for a “job” and not a “business” the majority of people posting responses are pushing their business opportunity. We should first and foremost be interested in helping the person solve their problem and not be solely interested in recruiting them into a business. We bring value to others when we ask questions, find out more about them, being interested in what THEIR goals are. For those that do not understand or have experience in the network marketing industry, it can be overwhelming and disappointing to receive 25+ responses to their inquiry for help from others that are pitching their business opportunity, especially for those that have specifically stated that they are NOT interested in a business.
If you have a business of your own, it’s understandable that you are excited to share it with others and help others see the value in what you have found, but it is much more effective to market yourself by bringing value to others than it is to market your opportunity. If you concentrate on TRULY helping others and building a relationship, you will find that you will have much more success. I have made some great friends and built some long lasting relationships with people that I have met through networking and there is nothing more important than those relationships. It doesn’t matter that we will never work together on a business level.
I encourage you to re-evaluate your marketing practices and make improvements if you feel that you need to. We should never stop learning and growing to better serve others!
Good luck and I wish you lots of success!
