My 11yr old has started chewing her shirts to the point of putting holes in them, she says she gets dry mouth and thats why she does it, anyone have this problem before? She is ruining brand new shirts, but is there an underlying issue?

Biting their nails is more common. This chewing of the shirt could be in the same category as the biting of the nails. Maybe something is bothering her. Pray for her and try extracting some info that will help her overcome this uncontrollable habit. God be with you.

I agree with Kyleigh it sounds like anxiety or a comfort technique. I was in a crappy relationship and one day I was making my then 6 year olds bed and noticed teeth marks on her headboard, she was chewing at the wood and it was anxiety, dumped the loser and it stopped. Talk to her and see if she is worried or stressed about something.

it could be a sign of a anxiety disorder , my friend bought cheaper clothes it could be a way to calm herself..try chewing gum i know my friend did and it improved or could be a self comforting tactic such as thumb sucking , nailbiting, hopefully she will outgrow it
