Working mother of two, son is 4 years old and daughter is about to turn 11. Daughter is from first marriage and son from second-embattled for 8 years in bitter custody/visitation battle with ex-husband who is Bipolar 2 and refuses to take medication or seek therapy. His consistent illegal drug use and distrust of medical doctors or health care professionals is disheartening in light of our daughter's problems.

She began self harming two years ago and suffering from mood swings and anxiety. While Dad is not the entire source of her emotional issues, visits with him aggravated these episodes and she became more and more despondent. Sought treatment from a center in our city recommended by her pediatrician and after 6 month of observation diagnosed her with Bipolar NOS-both her paternal grandparents and great-grandparents suffer from this and all take a regime of medication to control it except her father.

This has been a HUGE adjustment for her as well as my current husband and me. We regularly go to therapy to help learn better coping and parenting skills to aid her in being able to function. She is currently on a low dose of Abilify and Prozac and Clonodine to help her sleep at night. However, lately she has experienced more episodes with the onset of puberty and I wanted to try and find some books or recommended sites for young girls who are going through this.

She feels extremely isolated and alone and doesn't make friends well with other females due to the difference in social behaviors-she seems like a little adult in a child's body.

If anyone has any recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated.
