I have an 11 year old step daughter and we've noticed that over the last couple of months she has had a problem with telling lies. The lies can be very small such as lying that she likes a certain kind of food when she actually doesn’t to big lies such as saying she didn't know where my iPod was when I was looking for it all over the house with her siblings (while she was helping) and then when I found it in her book bag, I saw she took it to school and took pictures of herself with friends. Even after her Dad and I saw the pictures and knew she had taken it to school, we sat her down and told her and she still denied it. It takes some work but we always get her to tell us the truth but the problem is the lying. I don’t know if this is something that we just continue to correct and reprimand and she’ll grow out of it or if there is an underlying issue. Just yesterday, we got a phone call from the teacher saying that a boy had let my step daughter use his library book and when he asked for it back she said she already gave it back to him and didn’t know where it was. Then they found it in her locker.
