My son was born at 28 weeks and has always suffered with bronchitis. We had a wonderful pediatrician that saw him for most of his life. Sadly, she left us and moved way to far for me to keep her as a doctor. I was finally able to get a new pediatrician. My son has had a bad cough for about a month already. I feel helpless because I know it's bronchitis and his new doctor refuses to give him antibiotics. I'm at my wits end, I'm taking him in again to see his doctor. I feel like a nagging parent but I don't know what to do anymore. I took him to a clinic over the weekend and another doctor that gives him coughing medication that won't help him. Any suggestions?

He actually hadn't been to the doctor in over 2 years. I was sooo happy because he'd been sick for so long in the past. This was a complete surprise to me, now it's just so bad. We'll see what they tell him today. The doctor wants to do a chest x-ray on him, so. I hope your son gets to feeling better.

He had a wicked cough for about a week... and then started off and on fevers from Thursday until Tuesday (second day on antibiotics). I almost didn't bring him in cuz he doesn't 'act' sick, but he was missing school w/ the fevers... so I brought him in just to check it out.

Pneumonia is apparently going around where I live right now cuz the doc said he's seen more cases in the past month than he's seen in a long time.

I do know there are a LOT of viruses that cause wicked coughs though... and there's really not much you CAN do other than wait it out. Overuse of antibiotics is a dangerous thing.

I'm taking him to see his doctor again today and I'm just going to have to have it out with him. If he won't help today, I've got a new doctor in mind already... What symptoms did your son have, if you don't mind me asking?

Sounds like you may need to try and find another doctor. Sorry. ♥

My son was diagnosed w/ pneumonia on Monday.

Just gave him Bromfed Dm syrup and that's it. He said it'll go away on its own. It hasn't gone away and I see my son almost sad over it, tired. He has to wake up all night to spit out the phlegm and during the day the same at school.
