My 11 yo daughter is on the autism spectrum and has adhd. She is taking Strattera for adhd and takes Clonidine & Benedryl to sleep. This combination has worked for three years but the past two weeks she has been waking up between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. She stays up all day and goes to bed at 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. She is cranky and oppositional when she wakes up that early. She was taking Melatonin but I heard on TV and read that it is overused and can cause behavior problems......so I stopped it and give her the Benedryl now. I do notice if her ceiling fan is on that she sleeps better....maybe being cool and the white noise helps...I am going to try that for a few days and see what happens....the nights that she does sleep all night I have a hard time waking her up in the morning! It takes her at least 30 minutes to get out of bed.
