Hi I have an 11yr old boy who has temper tantrums frequently and has also self harmed in the past, he gets bullied in school most days but I am really concerned about the tantrums as he says it feels like a switch going on and off in his head and he hits out at those closest to him. Has anyone got any advice on what i can do to help him?

If the doctor won't give you a referral you demand a second opinion.

I hope the school counselor can help.

We have been to the doctors and they wouldn't help us apart from prescribing him sleeping tablets,we have referred him to the school counsellor and willl be seen as soon as next week hopefully this will help him, the police have been involved with the bullying and the school are always telling the bully to stop the bullying but this has made it worse for my son.

Ask his doctor for a referral to a counselor/psychologist asap. Is there a guidance counselor at his school that he trusts and can talk to?

11 year olds are interesting 'creatures'... starting puberty, crazy hormones, new emotions that they have to learn how to handle just like when they were toddlers, but... the bullying and the self harming would have me seeking outside intervention so fast it'd make your head spin.
