My 12 year old son is driving me nuts! I'm at a loss. He is very intelligent and relentlessly persistent. Tried more freedom, less freedom, professional help, various meds, no meds....

Yes he sees a psychiatrist. Normal punishment is loss of privileges. Right now I have his phone and he is grounded after school because of all the swearing and hour long fight to get him out the door for school. He and his sister were both late for school because of it. My youngest gets the short end of the stick because he requires the vast majority of my attention. She is far more self sufficient at 7 then he is at 12.

My next questions are the same as Jodi's. What are your consequences for his behaviour, and has he seen a behavioural therapist?

So what DO you do when he is rude and nasty to you? What consequences?

And have you actually had him diagnosed by a child psychologist or psychiatrist (as opposed to a medical doctor)?

It's just a constant battle. If I say black, he says white. If I say up, he says down. He just really seems to dislike me. If anyone of my friends or family are around he is very rude to me. Swearing and hitting. He could care less about school. Last week he did his math test, walked up to the teachers desk, looked right at her and threw the test away. His reasoning is that he knew he did it correctly and didn't feel the need to prove himself to the teacher because she's "dumb". His doctor has said it's AD/HD and Disruptive Behavior Disorder. I do not and have not ever spanked or physically punished him. (no judgement to those who do) It's frustrating to hear ALL the time from random people and friends/family that if I had spanked him he wouldn't be so nasty to me. Just a little background, I'm a single parent. His dad has never been in the picture. I also have a little girl who is 7. I can't leave them alone together because they beat the snot out of each other. Any ideas? Thank you
