Recently our 13 month old started not wanting us to leave him at night. We used to be able to just lay him down in his crib put on his music/nightlight system and give him his milk. Within the last couple of nights when we lay him down and give him the milk and say our good nights after just a few seconds or so he starts crying and throws his bottle down and begs to be picked up. If I pick him up he's fine and he calms down but I can't be rocking him to sleep forever. I also don't want to let him cry his heart out forever either, does anyone have an idea why this new behavior is happening or how we can get him to sleep on his own?

He won't usually fall asleep in his own he will just cry for hours, also he dosnt have an ear infection, he only is cranky when we leave him at night he's fine all day and in a great mood, also he has never choked on his milk, he has no sign of ear infection

Ear infection.

Putting a child down with milk can cause serious ear canal infections or worse, they can choke on the milk.

I suggest seeing his primary care physician and have them check.

He needs about 3-4 nights of crying himself to sleep if nothing is wrong. Self soothing is EXTREMELY important for a child at this age, and later on in life.

Don't go back in there and pick him up once it's bed time. Rules need to be instilled now...later, it just gets harder.
