Does anyone know any babies that started walking after 13 months? My son's not walking and people I know is saying if he's not walking by 13 months that usually signals a problem or developmental delay. The child I know that started walking after 13 months was autistic and my older 2 kids started walking at 10 months and 11 months. Should I be concerned?

my oldest now two didnt start walking after past 13 months. Shes pretty normal and so far no signs of autism or delay. shes very active and a little clumsy like her mom lol. I was freaking out at 10 moths had just started to crawl sometimes we let people get into our minds with inappropiate comments. I know a girl didnt start walking at almost 2 years and shes fine now. I see her everyday and no autism either

My eldest didn't start walking until 16 months. She's 6 now and in the top of her class at school. Babies do things in their own time :)

My daughter was 15 months before she started walking!! She isn't autistic or anything. She was always really shy so he's probably lacking in confidence and a bit shy!

Oh, and one of my kids never cruised or crawled. Just stood up one day and walked, completely on his own.

Thanks everyone! You guys have definitely helped! I must stop listening to people who have no idea what they're talking about.

Oh and he took his first couple steps over the weekend. :-)

my brother didnt walk until 18 months. he is perfectly fine...my mom said he figured why walk when you can carry me everywhere, but he got too heavy for her. If the people aren't doctors, ignore them. or tell them "oh really, his doctor isnt concerned"

My neice is 16 months and has only started walking but her brother started walking at 10 months, its just because babys grow at different paces

My baby is 10 months not walking yet just cruising but he has like 9 teeth. You just have to be a little patient, they all grow at different pace.

My daughter did her first 3 steps at 9 months but felt and got scare and didn't started to walk for real until She was 13 months, She isn't autistic or delay, at the time I wasn't worry because although She didn't like crawling She walk with help and act 'normal' for a child her age. Most people keeps expecting kids to develop at the same speed than their pairs but everyone is different, if you think your son is fine then don't worry about it and just help him win the confidence He needs to start walking.

My 8 year old didn't walk until he was almost 17 months. He is now an all star baseball player and one of the fastest runners on his football team. My 14 month old isn't walking yet either. you know your child best. If you dont feel there's anything to worry about......don't.

Chicora, if you haven't already taken any/all concerns about the rate of your son's development to your pediatrician what's holding you back? The doc has seen it all when it comes to "normal" child development and s/he can help you get off the mental hamster wheel we moms hop on and then forget where the damn exit is. Getting some facts will ground you and that's going to help you and your son. I wish you well!

My son didn't start walking till he was 15 months. He didn't sit up till 7 months and didn't start crawling till 12 months. I was freaked out when he didn't sit up so I took him to the doctor and funny he sat up for her. She checked him out and everything was fine. He sat up, crawled and walked for the first time in the doctors office each time. He is now 6 yrs old and perfectly healthy and normal. I was so worried back then too. But I know now that every kid does things in there own time. He was slow at sitting, crawling, and walking but when it came to bottles to cups, no problem. And potty training was so easy. Good luck and hope this helped you.

Both of my kids did not start walking until 13.5 months and having Autism had nothing to do with it. It was the lack of confidence with one and size with the other. You can not go by those milestones to the exact numbers. Each child is unique and will develop faster or slower than their peers but its not a lot of difference. Those children that have any kind of delays or anything to worry about usually anymore are documented with those problems at birth as most hospitals test the child for some delays. Premmies are sometimes behind their peers depending on their birth timing and such. Other children have delays because they have some disorder or another genetic problem. But for a normal or typical child, even if he or she did not walk at the same time as some of the others close to their age does not mean they have a problem. Autism is not usually diagnosed until a child is much older than 13 months anyway.

Yup, I sure do. Both my kids were 14 and 15 months old. *shrugs* every child develops at their own pace. Neither of my kids are autistic btw, and no there walking mile stone does not particularly indicate ANYTHING.

He does cruise but would rather crawl because he can move faster. He can stand alone but only does it long enough to clap his hands. Maybe I'm just a worry wart

Is he able to stand? Is he cruising? My daughter didn't start walking till 14 months, she also didn't crawl in the traditional sense till 14 months either. She's now 3 years old and other than some minor speech problems which she doesn't qualify for services for she's perfectly normal.
