My son is 13 years old and was diagnosed with PDD-NOS a few years ago. He attends a special school and does receive services in the home. He is high functioning- can speak take care of him self etc. He is very "immature" when it comes to doing things and acting his age. He recently within the last 3-4 months maybe is starting to leave the house to "calm" down. He was told that he is allowed to do this if he tells me where he is going. But when he is in a "rage" he just leaves. Due to this his workers and myself have had numerous talks about him just leaving and we came to the conclusion that he is no longer allowed to leave the property. He is however allowed to go outside in the front or back yard(weather permitting) He seems to understand this but when it comes to the time for him to remove himself he does not follow this and leaves the property. I would have to say it is getting worse... upon driving home last night he was getting upset because he found out that he was going to have certain privileges taken away because of him leaving the property. He started to punch the car door and I was afraid he was going to put his hand through the car window ( he has done this before but it was a glass door). I pulled over and he got out of the car and started walking down a busy main road. I caught up to him and he refused to get back in the car and started to walk back the other way. I immediately called the police and thank goodness they found him. I could sure use some advice on how to maybe alleviate the problem of him leaving all the time.
