My 13 yr old dgtr is being verbally bullied by a student that all the other kids fear. This student calls her fat (not), tauts her, laughs at her. Yesterday, this student made a remark in class to her and said 'you fat', teacher heard and asked who said that. This student said my dgtr and teacher said she didn't want to hear that kind of talk anymore. These are 8th graders and teachers have to scream all the time for some of these kids to behave which they don't. No control over students in the classroom! Today, again, this student said teacher's drawing on whiteboard was not right. Teacher told my dgtr to give up her Conduct Card and my dgtr said she didn't say that.. This other kids sat there laughing where teacher could not hear or see. Dgtr went to bathroom and sent me an IPod msg that she was about to hurt herself, teacher, or that student if I didn't come and get her. Well, went to school under the guise to give her something (they are not allowed to use IPods to call/text during school) and found out all this. Two other students heard who said that stmt and told her they heard bully say it but they didn't tell teacher. What can I do? She has never been this angry before. She said she doesn't want/refusing to go to school anymore. HELP! Thanks.

Talk to the principle and get your daughter some counseling now - I would never take a threat to hurt oneself or someone else lightly.

Geesh, they wouldn't want me to sit in on a class! The unruly, rude kids would be crying by the time I was done! Your poor daughter, I have zero tolerance for bullying.

I have told my daughter - she has severe ADHD and has found it difficult to make friends - that if she is ever bullied to tell me pronto. Those kids would have a serious wake up call, I would definitely try the Principal (spelt it wrong last time ;) ) but if you already have and it isn't going anywhere, I would be calling the School Board and putting my foot down. Tell them they'd better get serious and do something about it. It is a very serious thing and it would be devestating if your daughter did do something she or you may regret after the fact...

Kids can be so damn cruel, they bully because they don't feel good about themselves and many of them have problems at home. I have had many talks with my daugher about this (she is in gr7) and I have explained to her the reasons they end up being bullies. However, it is no excuse if you see someone being bullied or you are being bullied, our children need to understand why these kids bully but they also need to know they have a safety net, which is us... ;)

I hope everything works out, go kick some ass momma! ;) (not literally but even if they have to be charged with harrassment, whatever works)

I don't know how your schools work, I am in Australia, but if I were you, I'd go to the board or education department, or whoever is high up if you have already spoken to the Principal about it and are not satisfied with the outcome. If a teacher is allowing this to go on in their class (whether ignoring it or because she has no control) that is unacceptable. If the Principal won't do anything about it, it is time to take it to the next step.

Thanks for the input. I had called the school and left messages for asst. principal to cal me; however, have not received a call. Normally, this A.P. calls but the evening is still young. Only problem it she always tells us to have her keep reporting, well, this has been on/off for several years and with the same A.P. and nothing has changed. Dgtr had begged me to change schools last year but she has friends in her school and she would be in 8th grade (top grade for this middle school). And this teacher doesn't have control in her class. I have sat in on class and still students are loud, unruly, and disrespectful -- even with a parent sitting in class. They have been talked to by Principal, AP, Special Resourse Officer and still no changes.
