Wow that is early to find this out. Where I am they don't do the testing for it until 6 months into the pregnancy. Now that you have been confirmed to have it, your doctor should be there to guide you along and tell you what to do. It doesn't necessarily mean it will be a challenging worrysome time, as Sherri pointed out. There are many women out there who go through this.

Wow that is early to find that out. It won't hurt your baby in the least as long as it is maintained. I also had it during my pregnancy and my son is now 3wks old. I maintained mine with diet and he was avg size at 7lbs 6ozs.

You need to avoid carbs and sugar. So the foods to avoid junk food, breads, potatoes, pasta is a huge one, cereal. Try and stick to fresh fruits, veggies and lots of protein such as p'nut butter, meats etc.

You should have also been sent to a nutritionist to give you all the information to assist you with this. Also check your blood sugar as often as you should. Worst case if your blood sugar can't be maintained through diet is that you will have to go on insulin to regulate it.

I thought it was going to be horrible but honestly it wasn't that bad and the benefit is I only gained 6lbs during my pregnancy and I am now down 23lbs after pregnancy. LOL

Wow okay best advice is to ask your doctor for a referral to a nutritionist. The nutritionist will be able to assist you with this. Your doctor should be assisting you in your diet plan or helping you to find a nutritionist.

Diabetes is known to produce bigger babies and yes if uncontrolled can effect baby when they are born. I had them when I was pregnant and I just had to check my sugars multi times a day and just watch what I ate. I always try to eat low gi food that will last longer, eat smaller more often meals and snacks. Avoid things that are high carbs so like corn or potato's patsa, breads or limit how much you have. Try not to have sweet things( yes this is hard pregnant) but it does you no favors. This is just a bump in the road and doesnt have to be the end of the world. Eat really healthy and watch what you are eating, stress can also play with your sugar too good luck with it all
