my 14 month old has a runny nose and a cough, he's had it for a few days the doctor said it was just a cold and said just to give him warm fluids. he doesnt seem to be in any pain but at night the cough gets worse, and he coughs in his sleep. how can i help get rid of the cough and runny nose? is it ok to give him tylonal to help him sleep? i fell like because hes not in pain he doesnt need it though, i dont want to give him medication for no reason.

He does not need tylenol/motrin unless he has a fever. You can certainly put a cool mist humidifier in his room to help him breath easier and break up all the phlegm. Colds for kids can really take up to a couple of weeks to completely clear out. Completely normal.
