On the ultrasound, I went to the Surgeon and he said that I need to have gallbladder surgery!!! An told him I want to wait for my baby girl to be born!!! And he said that if I wait I can have complications like pancreatitis, and liver damage and gangrene and that can kill me!!!. And he also told me that it was very risky to operate on 2 people my baby and me, I also have gestational diabetes!!!.I don't know what to do?? Please if you know someone or if you had gallbladder surgery in pregnancy please share your experience and advice with me!!. And if it is safe for the baby?? Thanks and God bless you all !!!.

I decided to have my surgery because I was suffering from gallstones & it was extremely painful. I also had severe hyperemesis so we wanted to try to improve my health as soon as possible. The day after the surgery I felt so much better. The soreness was nearly gone and I do not regret it. Your situation is different, just do your own research & make the decision that is best for you. I do know several other women who had this surgery while pregnant with no complications though. Good luck to you!

No thankfully it occurred 29 days after I delivered my healthy son. But I was told with my pre-ecalmpsia that if this happened during my pregnancy with him we both would have passed away. It is very dangerous during pregnancy. That is why I am praying for you and your baby and 5 other children. They need thier mom. I know that things will work out for you. Just do your best and stay as healthy as you possibly can. I feel you. I have been through this. When I had my first attack I went from being fine to having the ambulance come take me to the ER within 30 minutes. Thankfully I had my DH to take care of our newborn son while I was laid up in the hospital for 6 days.

When I had my first child, 29 days afterwards I had this same surgery. I had to have 2 gallstones removed from my bile duct, which they had to put me out for. The next thing was I had the surgery to have my GB removed. I feel great now. I had pre-eclampsia when I was prego with him. I wish you were not experiencing this WHILE being preggers. That is a hard one, sweetie. I do know that when I had my two gallstones stuck in my bile duct my liver was shutting down and I turned as golden yellow as an easter egg, no exaggeration. This is a dangerous situation you are in. How much longer until your baby is due? I recommend getting a second opinion too. But do not wait on that second opinion. Make an informed choice. But also keep in mind the longer you wait to solve this problem the more you and your child are at risk. As far as what the doc said about complications, he is right. If you get liver damage your life will radically change. I recommend you do your own internet research on credible sites, such as webmd.com, and any medical site that has org. at the end of it and that they have sources cited on them. Then do your own research on doctors willing to give that second opinion. Do NOT wait though. Do this research, and then get seen ASAP!! I am concerned about you. I was 33 when this happened to me. I am 41 now. Worst case scenario, you might end up having to get this surgery and your baby be born early, depending on how far gestationally you are. Please keep in touch and let us know how things go for you and your baby girl. I will be praying for you sweetie. Good luck.

I know you posted this a while back but I'm about to be scheduled to have my gallbladder removed and I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant. I know it's usually an outpatient surgery but do they make u stay overnight if you have the surgery while pregnant? Thanks.

Yes all those symptoms are very normal. It takes awhile for your body to get used to getting back to normal, plus you are pregnant. It will alleviate in time. Just get plenty of rest and absolutely NO HEAVY LIFTING of any kind. No picking up small children and such momma. Sorry it has been so long since posts, I went away on a small vacay with my family of 4 for the holidays. I am back now. Remember what I said about the power of prayer? I am so thankful to GOD that you are okay and that your baby is okay too. May GOD always bless you as this little miracle has throughout your life. You will be fine and yes I will certainly continue to pray for you and your family. GOD bless you my sweet Gloria. I will be here anytime you need me. :-)
Love Kathryn

I talked 2 my Dr and we elected 2 wait till baby was born I was give pain medication limited my bending watched my diet and tried 2 rest on my side & use a couple of pillows when I could but that wasn't often with 2 children already ..I know our situations are different & I don't have diabetes either. I don't want to convince you to do it or not to do it that's between you and your doctor I just wanted to let you know my story & that after I had her on March 17th 2011 my gallbladder was fine.I still have it today fully intact w no problems at all!

Hi Gloria,
Sorry to here you are experiencing this. I think you should do the surgery. As an OR nurse I often see a lot of expecting mothers with similar situations. There are a lot of complications that one can have due to gallstones. As your doctor said it can lead to pancreatitis, blockage of the pancreatic duct among other things. Having surgery always poses a risk. No matter if you are pregnant or not pregnant. There are different kinds of anesthetic drugs that can be used. Some poses a lower risk to the baby than others. Ask your doctor to go over these with you. Also make sure the surgeon has done enough of these surgeries before he touches you. Do a little research. I cant imagine the pain you must be feeling. Get it out as soon as possible before it gets worst. Good Luck and God Bless.

hi Gloria
I hope all works out well for you and your baby.I had my gallbladder removed when my son was 8months old.It took the doctors awhile to find out that the pain i was having was from the gallbladder.Im sure you know how terrible the colics from the gallbladder is...i had attacks of pain where i couldnt stand, sit or lay down i was just trying to get air and told my hubby to drive me to the hospital immidiatly..in the car i felt like i was dying!Once we got to the ER it took about 2minutes and the pain disapeared again.. I went for gastroscopy and a colonoscopy...they didnt find anything. That day i went for a colonoscopy i went after that to eat something because befor the colonoscopy i wasnt aloud to eat. That evening we drove for the forth time to the ER and just aswell there was a different doctor on duty and he did an ultrascan and saw that my gallbladder was full of stones,he asked me when last i ate so i told him at lunch,if i didnt eat anything they would of operated immidiatly. So they kept me there over night and they removed my gallbladder the next day. They only made four small cuts on my stomache.
If you can remove it without harming the baby do it,because the pain of the colics can get so bad!It was the worst pain i have ever expirienced, even worse then giving birth:) I was dissapointed with the doctors that they didnt check the gallbladder in the beginning but i think it was because i just turned 22 and they didnt think such a young person would be full of gall stones.
Incase your doctors didnt tell you yet,try to avoid eating fatty stuff even cheese.Since my gallbladder is out i cant eat too fatty stuff because my stomache has a hard time digesting and i get tummy cramps.
I hope all goes well for you and your baby,i wish you Good luck!

I had a mechanical bowel obstruction at 24 weeks pregnant and required major surgery immediately. I didn't have a choice because it was really bad. The doctors didn't want to operate on a pregnant woman but made an executive decision to do so. They were able to remove the obstruction and not touch the uterus at all. I gave birth on 8/19/13 to a healthy 8lb 10 oz 22 1/2 inch baby! I thank God for those doctors everyday of my life.

Do it sweetie!! Please get the help you need. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Okay. when the second doc touched your tummy and you screamed....you need the surgery. This is your second opinion. I appreciate what your pastor said, but comeon! GOD can and does fix things. I was basically told after my surgery that had it happened during my pregnancy we would not have made it. If you wait there is no telling what may happen. I am not saying this to scare you, I think your pastor did that just fine. Just pray to GOD for healing and his divine mercy. I am sure you will recieve it. I will pray extra hard for you over the next few days. GOD bless and keep you Gloria. Keep me updated.

Hello my Angels!!!.
I have bad news!!! Went to seek a second opinion with Dr. Price Robert he is a general surgeon here in Salt lake city U.T I end up with him because, A nice lady recommend him, last week wen I was at Doctors Rasmussen office, I saw this poor woman, walking with so much pain!!. And I was walking behind her, and ask her do you want me to take you to your car?? And she said Thank you!!!.
I ask her what's happened to you?? And she said I had my gallbladder out!! And nearly died!!!. She said she was miss diagnosed for 6 months!!! And they thought it was Gastritis, Gas, indigestion, after a lot of suffering they did an ultrasound and found out it was the gallbladder!!! Dr. Price talk to her about removing it laparoscopic!! She went and have her surgery, wen they put the little endoscope in they saw that her gallbladder was in very bad shape!!! They had to cut her open!!! She had gangrene!!! I told her that I was diagnosed with gallstones and she was o no!!!!! You need to see Dr. PRICE HE is great!! He saved my life!! So I got scared o no!!! I don't want to have surgery! But I don't want to have gangrene like her!! Because of waiting! This is serious ladies!! I am happy that all of you that had this operation are ok. And with no complications!!
So decided to make an appointment with Dr. Price, for a second opinion, and he touched my stomach and I screamed!!!
He said it needs to come out!!! You need surgery you can't wait!!!! He schedule me for this Friday morning!!!! I am freaking out!! What should I do??? Should I do the surgery?? he said that is a risky operation!!! For the baby and for me!!
I have gestational Diabetes, history of preterm births, low blood pressure, and my sugar goes very low, and very high!!! Is everywhere!!!!! My baby girl is doing fine!!! Thanks to God!!. I am going to be 16 weeks tomorrow!!. Please pray for me and my baby!!! The Pastor in my church said that I need to cancel the surgery!! And no to have it!!! He said that I need to have faith that God is going to do the miracle!! But he said that I have to believe it!!. The Doctor said that I need it to save my life!!! But my pastor disagree!!! He said that I don't have to believe in what men said!! That if I believe in men, that I don't believe in God and in his power!! And that I don't have faith,!!!
And I love God !!!! I have faith!! And believe in his power!!!
I don't know what to do?? What do you think I should do??
Thanks and God bless you!!!.

Hi Gloria! First of all, congrats on your pregnancy! Secondly, I am so sorry that you've been so sick and in pain. I could have written your post about your recent health troubles almost word for word! Almost 6 years ago when I was pregnant with my first, I went through the same thing. My pains started about a month or two before I conceived and gradually became worse. I visited the ER once at 14 weeks gestation and again at about 24 weeks. The first time, I was told that I had one tiny gallstone, but it wasn't concerning. I was diagnosed with acid reflux and gastritis and sent home. Pain continued (tummy and back between shoulder blades), but became unbearable between 23-24 weeks. When I went to the ER at 24 weeks, I was sent upstairs to L&D with what they thought was preterm labor. It wasn't. I got NO answers and no suggestions. I followed up with my regular OB the following week and he FINALLY suggested that I see a surgeon to rule out gallbladder. I saw the surgeon at about 25-26 weeks, who told me that I needed my gallbladder out ASAP! I felt the same way you do, especially since I had lost my baby the year before at 11 weeks due to a severe strep throat infection. I told him thanks, but I'd like to wait until after delivery and although he didn't agree, he understood my concerns. But....just a week later, I was once again in agony and called my OB. Before I knew it, my OB and surgeon had me on a conference call and basically forced me to agree to the surgery. So that I wouldn't change my mind, they scheduled me for surgery the very next day! There wasn't even enough time for my husband to make it back home before my surgery (we live in Atlanta and he was working in rural Pennsylvania--he's a traveling sales manager!). So, at 27 weeks gestation, I had my gallbladder removed. Although I was scared to death that I'd deliver my baby girl prematurely or that she'd pass away during the surgery, I knew that I wouldn't last in this condition for more than a week or two anyway. Your surgeon is right, untreated gallstone complications can be VERY serious. I was kept overnight in the high risk unit and my only real challenge was intense pain. I was thrilled to have my baby girl go through the surgery unscathed, but every kick from her felt like I was being stabbed. I was just barely able to have the surgery laparoscopically, so I had 5 incisions and every time she kicked or turned, she hit one of those sore spots. Even so, having the surgery was the BEST thing I could have done. My last trimester was much less painful and I finally gained some weight, although my total weight gain was still only about 15-20 lbs. I'm happy to say, my baby girl made it another 11 weeks and was born at 38 weeks, a happy and healthy 7 pounds with NO lasting effects or complications! Kendall is now a healthy 5 year old!

Hello Tiffany!!. Thanks for replying, I hear you ,about the pain, it is horrible!!! I haven't gained any weight this pregnancy!! Because of the pain nausea and vomiting!!.your words makes me feel better, that I am not the only one in this situation, The Doctor said if I had another gallbladder attack I have to have surgery!! Because he fears pancreatitis!! And I am praying to God that he lets me continue the pregnancy, without the surgery!!! ,but if I get sick with this horrible pain again, or if get any other complications I will have to do it!!. Thanks for everything ,and now I feel much comfortable thinking about the surgery!!. It really means a lot to me!!. Thanks again!!. God bless you talk to you soon!!.

Hello Tiffany!!! Thank you for sharing your experience!!! I am so happy you and your baby are fine!!!. Why did you decide to have your surgery instead of waiting?? Did you had gallstones ? I am sorry for all the questions but I am trying to decide ,if I am going to wait or have the surgery, because I also have gestational diabetes!! And it makes it a little bit difficult. How was your recovery for you and the baby?? Can you eat normal again? I also have history of preterm births, I had 2 premature babies , and that is why I am so nervous with this baby!! I am starting my progesterone shots in one week, to prevent a premature baby again!!. And I have to have them every week until the baby comes!!.God bless you talk to you soon Thanks!!!.
