he gets really bad mood swings. Bad suicidal thoughts. He has counselling but it doesn't seem to be helping as much as I wanted it to be. He has a broken hand due to punching a wall. He's done this more than once. Is this any sign of bipolar or anger issues?

Has he had a full evaluation from a psychologist or psychiatrist? I don't know what level of professional his counselor is... which is why I am asking. How often is he in counseling? You may need to seek some additional resources if this situation is more than you can handle.

Spending all of his time alone in his room is not good. Can you convince him to hang out w/ the rest of the family... maybe do something together that he enjoys (watch a movie, play video games, go bowling... something..)?

No he hasn't had a full evaluation. The counsellor he is having is seeing him every week day. He plays his video games but as soon as he's off that he's just so emotional again

The counselling was referred from the doctor yes. He just spends all his time in his bedroom and building up all the anger and emotions. I have gotten him a punch bag but he doesn't use it. The mood swings are just so sudden. He can be really happy then get really low and just start crying all of a sudden he can just flip out.

Is this counsellor through the doctor? He may not like the idea, but maybe seeing the doctor about his issues, his progress, and finding additional support might be helpful.
Does your son have constructive (or non destructive at all) outlets? If he's hitting things, I'd look into a punching bag, but also making sure he has something fun to do, socially if possible, and an escape plan should he ever be triggered.
