16 months and still babbles

Okay my sone is 16months and he still doesnt look to me when I say his name he kind of says mom but its not very clear, but mostly he just screams and makes noises that are not words. I wonder if he is just selective and just wants me to worry or if there are speech and hearing issues. He is due to go to the doctor end of the month and I am going to ask then as well. But I want a moms point of view to see if this is normal that a 16month old doesnt say words yet.

my daughter is almost 16 mnths and can say "cat, daddy, hot, blocks, key" when she wants to. but she still babbles alot and does try to say words. im only worried by the fact that ur son doesnt look at u when u call his name. does he respond to u otherwise? if not, u def need to see a doctor asap. early intervention can make all the difference in the world

My son is 20 months I would consider him a babbler. He does say, Mama, Dada, Nana, What's that...and other things, but the majority is babbling. His comprehension is there, but he's trying so hard to get his words out. Teresa is correct..not looking at you when you say his name MAY be a cause for alarm, but you're being proactive and seeing the doctor, so I wouldn't fret. You're just being a great mom.

I wouldn't be as concerned about the lack of words as him not looking at you when you call his name. Does he seem to hear you at other times? I think it would probably be worth getting his hearing checked out just in case.
