Hello, my husband has a daughter in another state who is struggling in school. She has behavior issues (suspensions for fighting). He just found out a few months ago she was his daughter. We want to welcome her to our home and help her finish school so he is seeking custody. I am guessing she is a year behind since she is 16 and just finished 9th grade. However, she is in summer school now and in danger of not getting promoted.
The schools around here aren't so great and I wouldn't want her to start another year behind. I want to try to work with her at home and see if we can get up to grade level, try to determine where she is at. My state has a supportive online school but I don't see anywhere they test you to see what level you are at.
I need suggestions as to how to get started. Are there any tests she can take at home so we know what to focus on ? I don't want to stick her in school or start a curriculum that is too difficult. She wants to become a pediatric nurse one day so we want to help her realize her dreams.
