Any one have any ideas on how to get a 17mth old to stop waking in the middle of the night for a bottle? she goes to sleep at 8 after having a bottle, then wakes at 12.30 every night for a bottle, i have tried water, she has a little sip then goes back to bed only to wake up in half hour, crying out mum again, so i give in and give her a bottle, then she sleeps til 5, if i give her a bottle then, she will sleep til 8 then get up and be happy for the day. any ideas would be helpful, id love my sleep, my eldest daughter slept from 6 weeks old.

Each time she wants a bottle in the night, make sure the bottle contains water only. Small sip and then she goes back to sleep? She is using it as her comfort. Offer a blanket or stuffy instead. While I never had to do this, leave the bottle in the bed with her that way she can find it herself and sooth herself back to sleep. DON'T run to her when she first wakes and asks for you. By doing so you are only reinforcing the exact thing you don't want to do.
