I have an 18 month old toddler who has, up until 3 weeks ago, generally been a great day sleeper (and night sleeper for that matter). Has any one else had a little boy or girl who at 18 months has stopped day sleep all together? Did the phase pass and did the day sleeping resume? My suggestions have been to continue with the bed time routine in the afternoon. He just gets into his cot and plays and talks/sings/calls out etc ( never cries too much). I am just wondering if there are other experience out their and what were the outcomes. Should I give up hope for this little monkey resuming that peaceful daily slumber!!??

My little girl dropped from two sleeps to one before her first birthday. It's seems now at 18 months she is dropping the one and only day sleep! It's just like when she dropped the second sleep - she will sleep less than half the time and she makes it known she doesn't want to be there. However she seems fine managing with no day sleep when this happens.

My son did the same thing at 18 months, he is 21 months now and I still put him in his bed everyday for 2 hours. He takes a nap less than half the time but I've been told giving him the time in his bed is still important

It is very unusual for an 18mo to drop day napping altogether. Usually they drop from 2 naps to 1 nap between 12 and 18mo and continue 1 nap until 2.5-3yo.

Is he tired? Or is he coping ok without the sleep? Does he generally have a low sleep requirement? Maybe just give him some quiet time then? That would be my usual recommendation for a 2.5yo dropping their nap but still getting tired and cranky. But he is too young to explain "quiet time" so you would probably have to sit and read to him or something.

Gees, not being particularly helpful am I! lol

I would've killed for 18 months of Day sleeps. My daughter dropped hers at 13 months & there was NOTHING I could do about it no matter how hard I tried. She hasn't suffered for it (Although I did ;-D)

up until a year my son had 2 naps a day 3-4 hours total, as of the last month he has gone down to 1 nap and only for 45 mins. They say typically from 12-18 months they change from 2 naps down to one, sometimes my son wont even nap, I miss his naps because I napped and on the second one Id clean, and now I cant do either, plus now that he runs around all day long youd figure he would be more tired, apparently not, but I have noticed he is sleeping longer at night so thats a bonus

if his room is safe, you could put him in there with a baby gate up, then if he wants to play quietly he can do so

yes!! much to my dismay too. He seems to manage fine without it...but it is not a part of mummy's agenda!! Guess i am just going to have to start calling it "independant cot rest time"

My kids started out napping twice a day, once in the morning, once in the afternoon. By 18 months they cut out the am nap and were done napping altogether by 2 years old. They never looked back, much to my dismay...
