19 month old scared of loud noises

My 19 month old DD has started getting scared of loud noises a couple months ago, such as the vacuum (which I rarely use), blender, low flying propeller planes, big trucks, rising lawn mower. She wants to be picked up when we hear loud noises outside. I tell her the plane is going bye bye and to wave to the planes. She waves once the plane is past us. She hysterically cried when I started the vacuum cleaner for the first time. I have the vacuum cleaner in the living room and she doesn't seem to be bothered by it when it is not running. Does this sound like normal toddler behavior for her age? Do any of your toddlers act this way?

This is very typical for her age. Even if noises did not bother her before, she is reaching new milestones and levels of awareness. Just keep doing what you are doing and reassure her and cuddle her when she needs it. Being startled is not pleasant for anyone, so maybe try telling her you will be turning on the blender, vacuum or whatever. She can cover her ears or grab a comfort item.
