My labors were thankfully all quick and no complications. With your first, if you plan to nurse, remember your baby doesn't know how to do it either and it may take sometime for the two of you to figure it out. Once I got the hang of it, nursing was great. I did not use cloth diapers, just personal preference I guess
I tell all new moms this; do not be shy about asking for help! If a friend or family member comes over to see the baby, you do not have to entertain. If they offer to help say yes, have them fold a load of wash, hold the baby while you shower or take a quick nap, take out the trash, load or unload the dishwasher. Before baby comes get your fridge cleaned out and stock up on healthy and easy to eat food. Make space for dishes that people will send over (hopefully). Sleep when baby sleeps and don't feel like you have to let every single visitor in; you can tape a sign on your door that says "sorry, no visitors, mom and baby are resting".
The fishnet, grannie pants they give you in the hospital are actually good at holding the pad in place and will fit you as you shrink, so if they offer you a few pairs, grab them. Also, all of the stuff in the bassinet they keep the baby in at the hospital, diapers, thermometer, pacifier, all the stuff in the drawers is yours; take what you can use. The hospital will throw everything except linens and blankets away.

Cloth nappies aren't new. The "new" design has been around for years.
In regards to what to expect at birth......Anything. Every pregnancy and birth is different. No one knows how yours will go. I had 1 last 10.5 hours, the next last 50 mins and the last 5 hours. All were drug free.
