I tried to post this on a kids with heart conditions group but it wouldn't work so I'm posting it here.
My son has always been very small even though he eats well. He was referred to the peadiatrics just to check if there was an underlying problem or if he simply was little, he is 5 and a half 98cm and 14kgs. He has a carotid bruit, weak but palpable femoral pulse, is generally ok apart from frequent colds. He does tire more easily that most children his age but to be honest I have always thought of course he does he is working twice as hard to keep up because of his size. His blood pressure was 88/52 (I'm not sure if that's normal). He slept terribly until around 8 months ago and has suffered from chronic constipation which has only improved recently.
So to the question part, he has been referred to the cardiologist at the childrens hospital, we are waiting for our appointment I just wanted to ask if anyone has any tips on what to expect with this check up and any advice on questions I should be asking. I know this is quite vague due to not knowing the nature of the problem but I am just trying to be prepared.

Yeah it's hard I know. Just prepare yourself with as much information as you can about what's going on with him, and try and busy yourself with other things so you don't imagine the worst!! Sorry I couldn't be much help to you:(

I will wait to see what info there is on the appointment letter and if there isn't much I will phone and ask. I am just feeling the need to do something, waiting is just getting to me a little.

When my son was referred to a cardiologist he had an Echo done, but they told me that was going to happen.
Can you call the hospital and ask what to expect?

Hi Pia, I already know all his symptoms can be related to heart conditions that is why he has been referred, I just don't really know what to expect from the appointment, scan etc. I think maybe I just feel the need to be doing something while we wait for an appointment.
Taking a notepad is something I will definitely do thanks.

It's hard to know what questions to ask until yiu know exactly what you are asking about, so I would take a pen and paper and take notes on what the doctor says.
Then when you review it at home compile your questions and call/email the dr.
Ask whether all the symptoms you listed could be related to a heart condition and if so what ones, then you can do your ow research too.
Sorry my answer is also vague but good luck:)
