Do you mean newborns? The good part is, most little ones only have a few things they get unhappy about... Being hungry, wet, uncomfortable, or tired. Maybe a few others (overstimulated...), but in general, if you just fed the baby, then you can rule out hunger (or just changed him/her, its not the diaper). If they just ate, try burping. So much of new motherhood is trial and error, but you will probably find that you will learn quickly what your baby wants/needs. Sometimes there is even a specific cry that goes with what the issue is. There will always be other needs that come up that may be a mystery till you figure it out as they develop (colic? teething pain? gas pains? separation anxiety?), but do as much reading as you can so that you can keep in mind the possibilities and ideas to try. Some babies are more fussy than others, so experiment with what might be soothing...walking and bouncing, using a baby swing, a vibrating chair, swaddling, quiet music, etc. What works for one doesn't work for all, so try different things (and try them more than once). Good luck!
