You won't need a lot of toys because they'd rather stare at a shiny spoon or play with all the tupperware anyway, but a basinette and nursing pillow and glider are definitely nice. Somewhere to sleep, diapers, clothes, travelling things like stroller or carseat. If you start getting overwhelmed by all the stuff people say you need to have, try thinking, "Did my grandma have this?" If not, probably you don't need it. (except the carseat!)

And if you don't have something that you thought you might not need but now you do, it's not like you'll be living in the wilderness. Just go out and get it when you do need it. We didn't move into our house until our son was 4 months old. At that point we went and got a change table (actually a dresser with a pad on top), crib, rocking chair, and high chair. The only thing I wish I'd had sooner was the rocking chair. Certainly it made putting the baby to sleep easier.

At first you only REALLY need.... diapers, weather appropriate clothes, bottle feeding stuff if you don't plan on breastfeeding, a place for the baby to sleep (anywhere from your bed to his/her own crib in his/her room is fine), and a car seat.

Anything else can come with time. Congrats!! :)

i know right! i have 4 other friends about the same age that are pregnant and they are all further along then i am, so they think they know everything! i live with the father of my baby and just tend to keep to myself they are insane pregnant people! they try to control what i eat and what i do how long i should be in the sun and all this stuff they are to much, so i kinda just stay in our apartment and hide from them :) lol they also try and get me to buy all this baby stuff just because its cute! cute i am not gonna go on a shopping spree spending money that isn't necessary when i have a baby on the way... :) and with my mom oh wow she thinks that just cause its on the commercials my baby needs it! lot to handle :) not to mention all my friends are having girls and the in-laws say they dont want another grand baby unless its a little girl talk about pressure!

Oh, good, I'm glad I could help. :)

Some people treat having kids as a new hobby that involves a lot of shopping. That's fine if they want to do it that way, but I don't think it's necessary or even good. But as you've probably already found out, EVERYBODY and their uncle has an opinion on what you should be doing during your pregnancy. It just gets more like that when the baby's born... :P I've found just being polite, listening and nodding and smiling, and then doing whatever I think is best works really well. If you try to please everybody, you'll never get confident and just run in circles all the time. Not good for you or your family.

Congratulations, by the way!
