Hello, I just joined and I would realy like to hear from anyone who has had or has this problem. My son does not say a single word, not even mommy. He just grunts or cries. He started ECI this past September but still nothing. His therapist mentioned autism, now im very worried and scared.

Don't let anyone scare you. My son was diagnosed with apraxia at the age of 3. He began speech therapy at 2, when I realized he wasn't talking. My only advice, is to be his advocate. He should be having speech 3x a week, if you dont feel like he is making progress, talk to his doctor, maybe he can have some more testing done. My son didnt completely start talking until he was in preschool. Being around other kids, and having therapies while there, was a HUGE factor. Keep pushing, you only want what is best for your child.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Hopefully he turns 3 soon, and then he can get an IEP and jump to the front of the waiting list!

Try to get your child around other kids because hearing other children around his age talk will encourage him. My son is 2 years 8 months and he started speech therapy about 2 months ago. He says a lot of words but he would not put them in sentences. I noticed s
That since I started taking him to the park with other children he has improved alot

Thank you Tina, he only gets an hour once a week :( and they have suggested I place him in head start but there is such a long waiting list and we cant afford day care. I stay with him all day and I talk and talk to him but its like he doesn't even hear me ( he passed his hearing test). but I will continue talking to him as much as I can. I will keep trying.
