My son was born at 29 weeks because I had HELLP syndrome and went into the hospital for shortness of breath and flat-lined, stopped breathing, the whole bit. I was on life support for a few days before I even woke up and knew I had him. He was in the NICU for about a month and a half and I'm having a very difficult time keeping him awake at all during the day and getting him to sleep at night. He still needs to get up and feed every 4 hours max and is on NeoSure and I know that is a thick formula, but I give him the gas drops, burp him really well, everything possible at night to get him comfortable to sleep but he seems to get awful gas pains at night. Then during the day he sleeps the entire day, he'll barely stay awake for his feedings, he just cries with his eyes closed and drinks his bottle the same way. Then he's back asleep. I give him baths, I wake him up, shake rattles, talk to him, walk him around, and he just will not stay awake. Have any other mom's had this experience and how did you get your preemie to adjust to a normal sleep pattern.
