My 2 year old daughter has been sleeping pretty well through the night until a couple of weeks ago. Now like clockwork, starting at about 1:00 am she has been waking every one to two hours each night. When I first hear her, I leave it alone to see if she will go back to sleep, but she doesn't. Sometimes the sound she is making is a half cry half scream. Usually when I go in to check on her, she doesn't even look like she's awake (eyes are closed), but I tuck her in and that seems to calm her for a while. She doesn't appear to have been thrashing around or anything. On the few occasions where she was clearly awake, she seemed to be scared and I had to hold her while she went back to sleep. This morning when I woke her to get ready for daycare, she went into a 15 minute crying tantrum and kept pointing at our bedroom door that was closed. Finally I took her in to see her dad and she didn't even need to go to him, seeing him was enough and she smiled, grabbed my hand and led me back to her room to get dressed. I'm stumped. Is she having bad dreams and if so, what can we do? I'm exhausted.
