2 year old too early to start school?

We recently started my 2 1/2 year old son in day care two days a week (tues/ thurs). He has been going off and on for about 6 weeks. I say off and on because he got sick after his first day, runny nose fever and cough. He stayed out a week and then went back. Got sick again with an ear infection, went back. He cries almost the whole day for mommy and daddy, and just cant seem to get well. Should I pull him out and wait until he is older or just tough it out for a few more weeks. The reason he is going to school now is because I recently started a full time job and our previous sitters cannot stay with him full time anymore.

You may want to hire a different babysitter with a child around your sons age. So maybe a stay-at-home mom who wants to babysit or something? It sounds like his immune system just isn't ready for it. My son gets sick almost all winter and that's with my Mom watching him. If he's getting sick at two days a week it's probably just going to get worse during the winter.

I would try to find a sitter with someone with a child (or children) around your childs age so he can socialize but have illness reduced. He may also be more comfortable with one person and their child rather than a whole bunch of children and possibly different caregivers (I don't know what type of daycare he's in). Some kids don't adjust as easily as others.

If you really want to stick it out you may want to go with him and stay there with him for one week and then slowly reduce the amount of time you spend there. So stay a whole day and then the next time tell him you'll leave for just half an hour and come back and progressively do that for a little while. You might also want to leave some of your clothes or promise to phone him at lunchtime (if the daycare is comfortable with that). There isn't much you can do about the illness that I can think of other than giving him a bath right after he gets home from the daycare.

My opinion is to look around for a different babysitter with a child where there will be a lesser chance of him getting ill while also socializing.

Good luck!
