I have a 2year and feel like she should not leave the house. Lots of tantrumas too. Was wondering if any one had tips to help make it less. I do know that she will grow out of it. Thanks.

Happens to me- my boys are 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. Here's what I do, that I have found very affective with my kids and all the kids I've ever babysat/nanny for, no matter what their discipline is at home.

When my boys do that, I tell them, calmly, and almost quietly so they have to listen, that when they are ready to use their words, I would love to talk with them. Then I stand up and go (do the dishes, tidy something, basically ignore the tantrum but stay in the same general vicinity). MOST of the time, it works really well. But kids are just kids, so it's not always perfect. If the tantrum gets out of control loud or violent (with each other or toys or something) they get one warning and then are popped right into time out (using very strict time out/naughty chair technique via nanny 911 or supernanny). We do time outs in public, too.
If they are asking for something that I will not give them (watch some Elmo, a snack not at snack time, to go outside when it's raining, etc) and throw a tantrum, I do NOT try to placate them with something else treat-like or tv related. I give them a few other ideas, like, let's read a book, or vaccumn the house (i don't know why they love that one, haha) or color or play with play dough.

;) I find that with any public discipline, if you use a low tone of voice and don't get angry (save that for your own tantrum when the kids are in bed, lol) people will keep their thoughts to themselves. But all people suck, right? ;)
