My little girl is a little over 2 and has always been a fan of the pacifier. So much that she constantly wants it. Honestly I feel like i missing something as a mom because I feel bad if I take it away. I mean we're down to only nap time and bed time and lets not forget when we're in the car...or she makes it a horrible car ride. I've tried cutting off the tips and telling her they are broke and she believed me but that only lasted for 4 days and I ended up giving it back because she wasn't sleeping well without it, she was crying for it all night in her sleep. I felt as though I was causing some kind if emotional stress and gave in. Im desperate because I won't this pacifier addiction out of my home. Do I just be mean and throw it out not caring about her feelings? Or am I unconsciously causing it by giving it back every time? Her dad doesn't really help the situation for he likes her having it, it makes him still think of her as a baby I think. ..any suggestions would be great. . Thanks!

Here is what I did with mine and it ended up working VERY well. I did like you and cut the tip, but instead I then gave it back. That was the only pacifier I had, so if they wanted a pacifier they had to use the cut one. That is the part you do have to stay strong on as sometimes they will cry. But once the realize that that is the only one you have they will either use it or give it up. Allow it to be her decision if she wants to use the cut one or not. It feels funny and it not comfortable, so over time she will give it up but allow it to be her decision. I had one that used the cut one for months after. She ended up getting a chapped chin due to it and I explained to her that if she did not use her pacifier then her chin would feel better. She then gave it up then and there. My other one took the cut pacifier the first night, the second night had it for when we did the bedtime routine and then gave it to me before she laid down in bed. The third night she did not even want it.

Thanks Sarah..I do need to stick with it. I think I'll cut it again today and let that be it. I can't keep giving in and buying new ones like I have been.
