Hi, my name is Celeste and i am currently going thru a situation where my 2 yr old son is going to assessed for autism. This is very hard for me to deal with and i am very scared. Are there any other moms out there that are going thru this or have gone thru this?? I read a post on here from 2009 dealing with 2 year olds and autism but i am looking for people that are going thru this now. Are there any parents out there that can give me advice and help me thru this emotionally???

My 3 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder which is on the autism spectrum. What really helped me after finding out about my daughter was doing research into autism and actually meeting people who are going through the same thing that I was.

Also, there was a documentary that I watched that was very informing about autism called Loving Lampposts. It really helps you get into the mind of an autistic person and learn about how different each case of autism can be.

In my daughter's case, it is extremely mild. She has some signs of autism, but they are not really as bad as what could be.

You just have to keep in mind that this is still the child that you love more than anything. Autism is not a bad thing. It is hard to understand sometimes, but with enough patience and love, you and your son will get through this together.

i am going to love my son unconditionally no matter what the outcome, i work with autistic adults but its different when it hits home, i understand that there is a broad spectrum of autism and early intervention is the best, but since being informed of this all of a sudden i feel like an idiot when it comes to this, i just feel so lost im not sure where to even look on the internet. im sure it will be easier to find things once hes diagnosed with a specific form of autism but its just killing me and i feel helpless whith trying to understand how he feels and what hes going thru.
