Hi moms. I need some tips regarding getting a 20month old off his bottle. He drinks milk only from his bottle. And is very fussy with drinking anything else. He wouldnt even drink anything other than milk from his bottle. He will have warm drinks from a normal cup and doesnt like sippy cups or those with the built in straws. Just a plain cup but is fussy with what he will drink from it.

Thank you. It went well today. He ate alot and didnt drink at all from a bottle. Im just worried about night times. Should i gradually add water to his milk till he only gets a water bottle at night time? Ive read that helps and is the best to do.

If he CAN drink from a regular cup... he gets a regular cup. You could do as Sarah suggested and throw out the bottles and only give him the cup. Another approach is to only offer water in the bottles and his milk in the regular cup (he shouldn't be drinking anything other than water and milk anyway) and let him decide which he prefers for now.

You just have to be willing to be consistent and he'll get used to it. He will drink when he's thirsty enough... unless there is a mental, emotional, or physical disorder at play... in which case I would seek the advice of a doctor. He 'should' start to adjust w/in a week or two if there are no other issues though.

My suggestion would be to throw all the bottles away. He is making a choice. Let the choice not include a bottle. He will drink, but if allowed to choose he will choose bottle. Take that choice away he is forced to choose other things. Sometimes as parents we create a fussy child. Yes, some kids are more fussier than others, but sometimes we cater to their fussiness.
