My 20 month old daughter is not gaining weight. She weighs 19lbs and hasn't gained an ounce in 2 months. She has sever reflux and takes meds 4x a day. She rarely eats and only has a few bottles. We've kept her on formula because she doesn't get enought nutrition if we put her on whole milk. We have seen many doctors, non of them are very helpful. She sees a occupational therapist and it's also not to helpful. I am just wondering if any other moms are going through this or if anyone has tips or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

We have seen doctors at Primary Children's hospital here in Utah. She takes Zantac and Prevacid to help with the reflux. She is under the care of a gastroenterologist and pediatrician. All her doctors seem to be worried but they tell me the same thing all the time. I feel like her doctors think I'm crazy because I bring her in all the time. I never really research things online, I spend all my time focusing on her but I am feeling lost with all of this. I offer food all day, we have set meal times and I make her many different options. Her occupational therapist says she has sensory problems so we have worked with her on that.

I already sent a post, but did not remember that you said she takes meds 4x a day. For what? Who prescribes this? Remember to never give a child anything over the counter without the doctor writing for it.
In the meantime, make sure mealtimes are a family event. Sit down together, make it special--her own plate and cup and safe fork, spoon. Try to have what you are giving her--or at least a tiny amount so she doesn't feel left out, like her food is not good enough for you. I suggest no snacking or bottles in between meals. Also Does she have a diagnosis? Why the occupational therapist? it is good for her to have 5 or 6 meals a day, not just 3. I suggest a pediatric gastroenterologist. She might have a problem absorbing her food. There are a few things that kids can have that act like what you are describing. Good luck--parenting is not the easiest job, but it is the best! I will say a prayer for her.

you really posted this in front of the wrong person. If you do not have a pediatrician on this by now, you should. Why are you on the computer researching opinions instead of seeking out a specialist? I do not mean to sound harsh, but if you have done any reading about small children, you would know that most ALL of their BRAIN development is COMPLETE by age 5. How does your brain gets "nourished"? By your little body absorbing nutrition and sending it to the brain. If she is not gaining weight, she is not developing correctly. Don't wait even one more day. Call her pediatrician today and tell them it is not a well check, your child is sick and needs to be seen either today (Friday) or Monday. If you can't get an appointment, call another pediatrician. That doctor, if he is any good, will check her over and then send you to a specialist, or first run tests. This is an emergency. Plus 20 months is almost a year too old to be on a bottle. You were good to keep her on the formula--that is good, but honestly not enough. It may feel scary to you. Do not let this go even one more day. Keep us posted after you see the doctors. Good luck.
