My son slept through the night for a blissful 6 weeks when he was 6 weeks old. At 12 weeks, that stopped. We had just transitioned him to cereal, so we thought maybe the food was agitating him. So we switched foods. Then we thought be woke because he was hungry So we fed him before bed. No difference. We have done the bedroom routine thing, we have tried playing hard before bed to wear him out. We have tried a walk with fresh air. Nothing has worked.
The thing is, he doesn't wake all the way up. He just gets restless and starts screaming in his sleep. If I let him cry, he wakes himself all the way up (I'm not a fan of crying it out. I did try but....no). The only thing that makes him stop screaming is a bottle. It used to be he needed an oz or 2 and put himself back to sleep. Now it's worse as he has gotten older and he wakes about every 3 hours. It's still a bottle that puts him back to sleep (with just water), so I think it's the comfort of it. When he was younger he never took to a pacifier, but I saw the suckling got him back to sleep so I did try to reintroduce the paci to bypass the bottle. That didn't work either.
I am at my wit's end. I haven't slept through the night in 15 months. I know by now part of this is learned behavior from him but I really have tried everything I can think of. It's to the point where I put him in me bed in the middle of the night bc he's up so much. I will wake in the morning and wonder how he got there. I'm apparently doing it in my sleep!
I did find an old conversation online where other moms went through this and said their kids woke for over a year too. No solutions were found except "do a bed time routine".
Has anyone else been though this or am i the worst mother in the world?
