I think that my nephew's speech pathologist said that the muscles that you use to control speach are the same ones that we use to chew and swallow food, and that often if one is delayed, the other is too.

After going to speach therapy for a while though, at age 3, my nephew's first word was "get out of my room dad" and he closed the door on my brother lol.

Good luck!

Ask to be referred to a speech therapist as well your son should be making sounds at least and by two should have around 50 words to his vocabulary.Have you had his ears checked? Sometimes we do not swallow because our ears hurt when we do, also if he can not hear properly his speech will be delayed. This could be something really simple like an excess of wax or glue ear which is easily treated. Go back to the doctors and tell him to check his ears and tonsils because a two year old should want to communicate with the outside world and for him not to is not right. Don't worry though I am sure there is a simple explanation to this it's just a case of finding the cause.
