You're right. I did raise him with morals & values. He's a recent college graduate. But as a mother I can't help but worry. He was away at college for 4 years but he had 3 other housemates. Now he'll be alone

Wow, that's a great relocation bonus!

It's always hardest with the oldest. It will be easier to get excited once he knows where hes going. Good luck to both of you!

Yes, he is my oldest. The company is giving him $7000 for relocation. He has no idea where they're going to put him. They'll let him know next month. So as far as friends & family being there, he doesn't even know.

It is daunting to head that far from home, but you need to help him be excited.

Neither of my sons have decided to look for work in a different place, but we are encouraging our eldest to to so. Are there any family friends close to where he will be relocating? If so, that can help. If not, a good idea is to plan an adventure to his prospective new town, get the lay of the land, and help him start to look for lodging, etc.

Once he sees that life won't change that much (he will still have the same basic routine), he should start to relax. At least he won't have to look for work at the same time!

Is he your oldest?

I agree with Jodi.
Our job is to raise our children to be able to function on their own. At 21 he's more than old enough to go wherever he wants.

What is it that you are both scared of? Just remember, if you have raised your son into a functional adult, there shouldn't be too much to be worried about.
