We need an eviction notice in Missouri to get our 28 year old out of the house. Why he doesn't work an doesn't pay rent so why does one have to get an eviction notice if they don't pay rent there? So, so, very confused.

An eviction notice is legal notification to leave a residence. It is enforceable by law. That way, he knows he's out, and needs to get on his feet on his own.

Because eviction is the legal process used to force unwelcome tenants (in this case the tenant is your son) to leave a residence.
You can make him leave without filing for an eviction by asking him to leave or by making your home uncomfortable for him, but the courts will not help you make him leave unless you file for an eviction.
