Hi moms!

I just joined the group and wanted to pick your brain! I have a very smart 3 1/2 year old boy who has been potty trained for 6 months. He catches on very quickly and knows very well that you go to the bathroom on the toilet not in his pants. I understand that about 99% of children relapse just when you think they have potty training down! At first i thought that was the case. However this has been going on for months and he clearly knows and does it on purpose. I also thought this could be because of attention but he gets plenty of attention between mom dad and nanny! I'm stumped on what i can do next to help him understand that it's not okay. We have had many talks about why we don't pee and poop in our pants. We have overly expressed how great of a job he does when he does go on the potty and that didn't work. We have resorted to taking toys away and it's gotten to the point where he has been sent to bed early. Feeling very frustrated and need advice! Thank you so much in advance!!

Even negative attention is attention. Don't scold him, don't punish him. When it happens, tell him calmly, "You know this is not what you're supposed to do". Then quietly clean him up. Keep up the praise and positive reinforcement when he does go potty on the potty. it may take some time to get him back to using the toilet every time, but you have to be consistent.
